A library conversion is a new one for me so it's a shame that the interior here is nothing more than a typical JDW barn. It wasn't that busy on my January Tuesday evening visit.
The bar has ten hand pumps but the beer choice was poor with two available soon, the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled up, Jenning's Clean Slate and Brewster's Decadence. I went for the Decadence (£2.79) which was excellent. It was nice to see no Ringworm beers for a change.
It's not a great JDW and like the others in the area not cheap for their outlets. I can't imagine returning here.

This pub has a historic entrance on one side and a lovely garden on the other. Unfortunatally, I could not find out if the inside of this former library was "gutted" by Wetherspoons or not. The atmosphere is horrible: it looks like a discount restaurant to me. Although the ales are very well-kept you will not be able to enjoy your pint as rude staff will ask you every five minutes if you are waiting for food. Low-quality food in particular and discount prices in general seem to contribute to the shutting of lovely traditional pubs. To be fair though, I have to say that they give the less well-off customers an opportunity to drink a affordable pint.

Large Spoons housed in a lovely old Victorian building (was a library). Internally the pub hasn’t been particularly well-converted and is a generic Wetherspoon spread over two rooms. The far room is the best with booth seating, large windows and a mock library section. Elsewhere it’s the usual JDW tale of dim lighting and generic décor. A fair selection of guests ales here, though my Hawkshead Red had a distinct metallic twang to it. At 10am there were already some funsters getting onto shots, which caused consternation amongst one or two of the staff. If you’re going to do a Spoons in Poole, make it the other one (the Quay).

A former library, this impressive Victorian public building is going through a bad chapter, hosting one of the dimmest, dreariest 'Spoons in the South. It's not just the pub that's dim – this branch also seems to employ some of the least sparkling bar staff around. The single large bar is poorly lit and feels grubby, an impression reinforced by the time it takes for the staff to clean the tables after people have finished eating. Dark wood and dreary carpets do not help the overall impression. There were 9 ales on, and there were a dozen or so ciders behind the bar. I had a pint of Vale Brewery's VPA which was much too cold and lacked flavour. Not the best JDW and certainly not the best pub in Poole.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Lord Wimborne (JD Wetherspoon)

Imposing former public library (as can be seen by the plaque on the front corner) housing a distinctly dull 'spoons. Typically, anonymous furniture and decor, with the only feature of interest being a large tiled Poole Pottery map on one wall. Rear patio beer garden, partially covered. Fair selection from ten handpumps, including Wychwood Piledriver (£2.55).

My stop off for a quick lunch straight off the train as it was too early to check into my hotel. An attractive building being the former town public library however the interior has certainly not been sensitively converted. There are no obvious signs of the previous interior, the main area has a very low ceiling, I assume to conceal services, only the side room for families feels unclaustrophobic. The family area would be my preferred space as the higher ceiling, booth seating and bookcases make for a more civilised feel if only it wasn't chock a block with irritable kids.
I found a corner, parked my case and stuck my map on the table, went to get served only to return to find a group sitting there. After a few words they saw my point and went.
JDWs are generally reliable for consistency if not spectacular but this one was at the bottom end, my steak pudding and chips was poor, the usual 'spoons ale choice consisted of the regular Ruddles, IPA with so called guests being Ringwood, the local brewery plus one other, a World Cup brew from Adnams. The tables were even more crammed in than usual too. Saving graces, a nice outdoor area at the back, well staffed bar and tables kept clean and quickly wiped over.

Alex Way left this review about The Lord Wimborne (JD Wetherspoon)

A large Wetherspoons, and in a fairly typical Wetherspoons style.
One of my most visited pubs, although this is more to do with the price and quality of the beer than the atmosphere, which often leave much to be desired. The staff are very variable, there are as many friendly staff there as those that seem to be waiting to leave. Having said this, the beer is always well kept, and although I have had several unsavoury beers, this being due to the constant changing of breweries, I have never had an off pint. There are regular festivals here, most recently changing 8 of their pumps to different beers every day for just over a fortnight.
Overall a nice pub, well worth a visit, and just far enough from the quay to avoid most of the crowds.

This large Wetherspoons pub is located inside Poole's former main library - a building that has a lot of charm from the outside. Unfortunately this doesn't translate to the interior which could be a clone of any banal JDW pub.
On my last visit I was fortunate to arrive during a local beer festival the pub had put together. Ten hand pumps were dispensing beer from local brewers such as Ringwood, Badger, DBC and Piddle. There were also a couple of Irish themed beers left over from St Patricks Day. I tried a pint of DBC Harbour Master, which was in good shape, despite being a somewhat uninspiring beer. A blackboard on the bar listed all of the ales on offer for ease of reference, although it was unclear if this was a permanent fixture or just there for the festival.
As with most Wetherspoons, this place can attract the wrong kind of customers and it has been known to turn a little unsavoury at weekends, but I thought it was fine on my Friday afternoon visit - a long wait at the bar being the only down side.
There aren't many pubs this far up Poole High Street. This is certainly worth a look if you don't want to head too far from the shops.
