Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Wetherspoons

Housed in a wavy-roofed building, this large 'L'-shaped bar with a slightly raised section is (unsurprisingly, given its location) rather more modern in appearance than most. It also benefits from a fair amount of window space and a reasonably high ceiling. Partly covered patio seating available on the side terrace. Nine different cask beers from the two banks of six handpumps on this visit, including the local Don't Stop Me Now kolsch pale ale from the local Hornes Brewery (£2.10).

Light & airy modern build, making it a fine daytime stop off for the good range of beers.

I'm basing my assessment of this Spoons on the fact that it is in Milton Keynes, a place where the town planners and architects were smashed on drink and drugs when they came up with their ideas for this god-forsaken dump.
This was by far the best of the four Spoons in Milton Keynes on my morning visit and that's entirely down to the decent selection of beers. My local converted furniture shop is traditional and welcoming compared to this glass and steel structure. Inside it is one huge room with fairly typical Spoons furnishings.
Even at 10:00 in the morning the service was poor mainly because one of the local offices was apparently using it as a takeaway.
There were two banks of six pumps with nothing "available soon" or doubled up and ignoring the two GK beers and Doom Bore (always advisable) there was Oakham Inferno, Tring Colleys Dog, Spitfire, Snecklifter, Hawkshead Red, Purity Mad Goose, Nottingham Supreme Bitter, Tring Kotoku and Red Squirrel London Porter.
I went for the Nottingham Supreme Bitter (£2.50) which was a very good beer in superb nick.
This is the closest Spoons to MK Central Station so is well worth diving in for a quick one or coming to when one of the Spoons festivals is on.
According to the Spoons web site it is open for 24 hours on Thursday!

Blackthorn _ left this review about Wetherspoons

A modern, purpose built Wetherspoon’s in the centre of Milton Keynes. It’s got a contemporary appearance with floor to ceiling windows on three sides offering a fantastic 270° panoramic view of the surrounding office blocks, and one wall even had a small counter running along it so you could sit and admire the outlook . The curved ceiling appears to be some type of painted steelwork with black iron girders, and in rather start contrast to this is some full height wood panelling on the walls that aren’t glass which almost lends a hotel drawing room feel to the place.

Flooring is a mixture of wood and red patterned carpet, and as usual in a JDW there are plenty of tables and chairs as well as a few circular pods with leather bench seating. A couple of plasmas were dotted around, but these were unobtrusive with no sound and there were a few fruit machines and a quiz machine opposite the bar. Service at the bar was prompt, as was the food service – in fact the waiter must have left the kitchen around the same time that I left the bar.

Besides the usual offerings of Abbott Ale and Ruddles, beers on tap were Oakham JHB, Hoggley’s Pump Fiction, Hopping Mad Amazing Grace, Hook Norton Double Stout and Tring’s Mansion Mild. The “exclusive to Wetherspoons” Veto Ale is apparently coming soon. Ciders were Weston’s Much Marcle, Strongbow and Thatcher’s Gold. Say what you like about Wetherspoon’s, but any pub that does Thatcher’s Gold when the rest of Milton Keynes is drowning in a sea of Strongbow is all right in my book.

This particular outlet of Tim’s empire was built in 1995, so its modern looking and very light and airy , being floor to ceiling glass on three sides.
And actually Whetherspoons have made a very good job at matching this pub to the surrounding Milton Keynes central shopping area. Meaning it is soulless, boring and completely void of any character.
I’ve had the misfortune to go to this barn on a couple of Friday lunchtimes because as Mr Badger says below there is very little choice for the poor patrons who work close to Milton Keynes centre. And I can report that not a lot has changed with regards to the service and beer availability over the intervening three years of the previous review.
Fortunately on my last visit Hook Nortons Old Hookey was on and a decent pint, which made the trip almost bearable, especially with the beer at £1.50 when utilising the 50p off Camra vouchers.

Takes an age to get served, even when you are the only one at the bar and there's two staff behind the bar. What looked like a wonderful selection of ale was 90% not on, and the small amount they had on was seved ice-cold (what's that all about?)
But in the real-ale desert that is central Milton Keynes, it's the best you're going to get. Which is a shame.
