David the long-standing cellar guru and shift manager left a while back and ale quality is now a bit more variable than previous.

August 2015
Compact open-plan Wetherspoons (from the shades-of-brown catalogue) that has a slightly elevated air due to its location. The ale here is usually in pretty good nick and it's worth popping in even if it's not exactly an all-round pub experience. Has a house beer (Cadogan's Gold) brewed by Loddon - re-badged Ferrymans Gold. Sometimes the ale is on stillage out the back, so be prepared for a non-agitated beer (staff generally point this out before you've committed the order). Staff turnover is fairly low, which helps service levels no end as most of them know how the pub works. Worth taking in, as its regular GBG entries attest...

This is a smaller Spoons consisting of a square room with the bar on th right and fairly typical furnishings. It was doing a good trade when I turned up around midday on a Saturday. It's a single storey building so they haven't managed to find anywhere up or down several flights of stairs to place the toilets but I bet they tried. The standard guest ale price here is £2.65 making it more expensive than any of my regular JDW haunts in London.
There are only eight hand pumps but there was a full selection, the house Cadogan Gold, the JDW Trio Of Doom, Caledonian Ithaca Nut Brown, Loddon's Hullabaloo, Cairngorm Black Gold and Triple fff Apache Rose Peacock. I went for the Hullabaloo (£2.65) which was in excellent nick.
I thought this was a good Spoons and found it a lot pleasanter than any of the three in the middle of Reading.

A small box like Wetherspoon's which is just a room with a load of tables and chairs in it.The staff were friendly enough but the beer was nothing to write home about.

A rather average spoons, open plan and canteen like in the immediate area you come to when entering the establishment and kills any trace of atmophere. Six handpumps were all in operation with Abbot Ale, Cadogan Gold ,another usual suspect I cant remeber, possibly London pride, the other three pumps were more interesting offering Nelson Pieces of eight,Milkstreet Stout and an American collaboration beer at about 6.5% by Sixpoint Brewery from Brooklyn. I made the wrong choice and opted for the Nelson which was in good condition but I found to be rather nondescript.I am not a fan of these type of chain pubs and don't plan to revisit.

I would class this as a well-mannered Spoons with respectable clientele. I thought the service was good and quick. I went for their house beer named Cadogan's Gold, I was excepting it to be bland for some reason and was pleasantly surprised as it did have a bit of flavour. Defo a carpet shop at some point, I'll have to ask Quinno.

The Baron Cadogan is a square open plan Wetherspoons pub with a bar along the right hand wall. The usual cheap prices on food and beer are present along with the plasma screen showing muted rolling news.
Standard draught alongside Amstel and San Miguel are available from the bar which also supports six hand pumps. These were drawing some guests and usual Spoons stalwarts during my visit on Saturday afternoon last week.
There is a small smoking area at the rear.

I found the service to be polite and for a quick pint this place is good, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit here again.

Set along a high street, this pub looks like the classic 'spoons shop conversion. It has a square open plan interior and is one of the more functional in the chain, although the opened folding doors were a blessing on a hot day.The bar is to the right and sports six handpumps with Abbott, Ruddles Best and Cadogen Gold (Brewed by Loddon, reasonable state) as regulars with guests Loddon Forbury,Rebellion XX and Andwell Brewing Ruddy Darter .A decent enough selection, but not a particularly memorable visit,as a 'spoons is does exactly what it says on the Tim.
