Due to close after Sunday 10th April.

Visit Dec 2015
A Lloyds rather than a JDW according to the Directory but according to What Pub the noise is only unleashed on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. It's medium sized with more tall tables than most and a few sofas at the front. It's all pretty standard JDW stuff. It wasn't that busy on my Friday afternoon visit.
The bar has two banks of five hand pumps but three were available soon so the GK Abbot, Doom Bore and Black Dragon Cider left just four options. These were Everard's Inbetween, West Berks Good Old Boy, Ascot Aureole and Bingham's Space Hoppy IPA. I went for the Space Hoppy (£2.35) which was in good nick.
I agree that the Bear is the better of the two but it is cheaper here.

Latest visit found three of the guest ales unavailable on a Monday evening (at least they were labelled as such). Further irritation at the bar when the food I ordered (that comes with a drink included in the price) for some reason did not include the Loddon Hoppit when rung through the till – but did include every other ale including the other Loddon; not a murmur of apology from the rent-a-spud behind the bar or an offer to get a duty manager to sort it out. Down a mark…

A Friday evening revisit found bouncers on the door who wanted ID. Hmmm, suppose it is a Lloyds! Anyway has had a bit of a tarting-up since 2011 and is a bit tidier and lighter. All ales seemingly on and the two we had were in excellent shape. Upped by a mark. Rated 6

The classic McSpoons format#3 of converting an empty space into a functional space with chairs, tables and a bar; very little in the way of ambience, although to be fair the exterior was getting an overhaul so maybe in the interior is to follow? Standard Spoons range, two of the four guest ales were off, leaving two Loddon ales which were on decent form, alongside the standard Abbot. The barmaid serving was in good spirits which is always a bonus in a JDW. One standout feature were the large glass windows at the front, which can be pulled right back to allow for a vague form of al fresco drinking on the interior ledge. To the rear is s smallish walled beer patio for smokers. Unremarkable overall, but in Maidenhead it’s probably worth a look if you like your beer. JDW's other pub in town, the Bear, is better than this one. Rated 5
