Graham Coombs left this review about Museum Street Tavern

Returned to life after a period of closure and refurbishment, this is now an upmarket hipster joint, at least judging from the staff. Basically three rooms, all on slightly different levels but all furnished in an expensive designer yet slightly spartan way; wide expanses of open floor, lots of dark woodwork and mostly plain pastel walls with occasional arty touches. It might feel better when (if) it gets busy, but on a Sunday lunchtime it just felt empty. I am not quite sure who it is aimed at - not me and apparently not the average tourist either. It did at least have a couple of handpumps, serving Black Sheep Best and Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted, which was tolerable if past its best. Not much to note on the keg front. I suppose it fits adequately in a crawl, but there are better pubs close at hand.

Well described by OB below, so I won't bother except to say that there's yet another room if you go down to the lower level then up a few steps to the right. Bombardier, two beers from Wentworth and Sarah Hughes Ruby Mild available on our visit. The Wentworth Milestone was in good nick, the staff were friendly and fun. The staff T-Shirts all say TOY on them which stands for Thomas's Of York. There's a sign outside that says "Come In And Play With Our TOYs". :-)) We'll definitely call in again soon.

A bit of a mad pub decor wise, the elegant Palladian frontage has a faux Victorian interior as you enter then a lower level beyond that and a dining room upstairs. The floor has coloured lines hospital style and a sign saying if you want a drink go left if you want to eat take a seat. The counter in the top section has two pulls and the lower one has three, most of the beers were from Wentworth and in good nick when I called in. The decor is eclectic or slightly mad depending on your viewpoint, with a big Union Jack painted on the ceiling of the lower section, display cases of stuff, traffic lights and walls papered with odd posters and handbills. There are a couple of busts of Queen Victoria and a number of defaced Mona Lisas. Equally daft is the furniture, a mix of everything you've ever seen in a pub , I wrote this review sat on a leather Chesterfield with my pint resting on a table made of an old pallet cut in half and painted black. The exuberant barmaid tried to serve me with a handled jug but as she hadn't seen Get Carter it was a wasted moment.

This pub is now called Thomas's and is a brilliant one to have a wander round for quirky rooms. We enjoyed Hop Studio Blonde and Theakstons Old Peculier, both in good condition. Worth popping in when on a real ale trip round York.

This is a large pub close to lendal bridge it has seating on different levels inside.
This place was very quiet late saturday afternoon, there were two real ales on the bar we tried Black Sheep and this tasted slightly off the other beer was John Smiths cask.
There are a lot better pubs in York and we probably would'nt come here again.
