An obvious cinema conversion as described by Aqualung. Of the 12 pumps there was one dry, the remainder had Doombar, Ruddles and Abbot (of course), plus Exmoor Stag, Chesil and Cotleigh Tawny Owl. There were 4 boxed ciders. It's not the greatest JDW, scruffy and unappealing from outside, noisy and malodorous inside. I wouldn't make an effort to come here other than to use my CAMRA vouchers.

The Cerdic is a conversion of a small cinema which is obvious from the exterior but internally due to a false ceiling at the front is only really recognisable as such at the rear. The open plan room is split level with some lower seating to the right. The furnishings are fairly standard.
The ten hand pumps had the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled up, one unused, Dorset Brewing Durdle Door & Chesil and Otter Dark. I went for the Otter Dark (£2.19) which was in excellent nick.
This one isn't one of the better JDWs but is a long way from being the worst.

It's a Spoons, you know what you're getting! Usual big space, usual hike to the toilets. Cheapish, cheerful-ish, entirely functional.

Its a Wetherspoons, so don't expect cosy fires and welcoming landlords, this pub is a cavernous dining / session drinking hall. Being an ex-cinema you can imagine the vertical space which echoes about every noise made in the place. 4 ales on, Abbot, Ruddles, Hobgoblin and Exmoor Gold which was in good condition. Food looked OK too. All in all it does what Wetherspoons offers - a decent pint and food in a town where decent pubs are thin on the ground.

Undoubtedly one of the less impressive 'spoons although it's not excessively bad during daylight hours. After dark however, it's a different matter - but, then, Chard itself after dark is a place best avoided. Well below average.
