Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Six Chimneys (JD Wetherspoon)

Unexceptional 'spoons - irregular in layout, but it tapers towards the rear so less seating inside than the frontage suggests. Fair range from ten handpumps, including Ilkley Promise, Daleside Monkey Wrench and Acorn's seasonal Burning Bails (£2.46) in addition to the usual trio of Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot on my latest visit.

An adequate modernish Spoons with a typical interior decorated with the old school local info panels. Despite being a shop conversion, the route to the toilets feels quite cinema-like. It seemed pretty well run, with good service at the bar and cheery staff. Guest ales from Yorkshire, with a couple of Acorns, one from Yorkshire Heart and Old Peculier.

Pretty standard Wethers. Usual open plan the pub stretches back. 10 handpulls with the bank of 5 on the right housing the better selection.

Getting worn and old. Needs a major refurb. Service good, food what you would expect from a Weatherspoons. Nothing special

This place has certainly improved over the years. The bar staff seem efficient and the tables are cleared pretty quickly. No Doom Bore is a plus and the beers change frequently with the two GK beers being permanent. It's one of the better spoons in my opinion so I'm going to give it a 7.

As noted below this is a fairly typical Spoons being a shop conversion with all the usual fixtures and fittings. It's long and narrow with a low ceiling and the bar on the right. It was pretty packed on my early Tuesday afternoon visit.
There are two sets of five hand pumps which had two unused, the two GK beers, Caledonian Thunder Trail, Old Peculier, Ilkley Ruby Jane, Sadler's Peaky Blinder, Hobgoblin and Moorhouse Pendle Witch. The lack of Doom Bore was welcome. I went for the Peaky Blinder (£2.15) which was in excellent condition. I thought this one was slightly above average mainly for the beer quality.

There were a few oddballs roaming about this Spoons on our visit. Nevertheless, the friendly and bubbly barmaid resumed normality as we perused the ten handpumps. We were lucky to see a Moorhouses Farmhouse which was a good fresh pint, so this made up for the unexciting and dated interior.

This simple, standard Wetherspoons pub stands out from the surrounding buildings by virtue of its bright frontage, but the interior is of the sort that their pub fitters can probably knock up with their eyes closed. The long narrow interior contains most of the chain's trademarks, with the front part housing a limited number of booths with bench seating. The bar counter runs along the right hand wall, with high tables and stools opposite - a little too close in some places, making access somewhat tricky. Beyond the bar, there are a good number of standard tables and chairs all the way to the back of the pub. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but at the same time, it's still a functional and comfortable place to enjoy a pint.
The bar had a couple of banks of hand pumps, with a few 'Spoons regulars complimented by seven guest ales, including three from the local Wharfebank Brewery, Acorn Barnsley Bitter and Kelham Island Pale Rider and those that we tried were in perfectly acceptable condition. There was a relatively mixed clientele in on a Sunday evening and rather predictably, it was probably the busiest of the eight Wakefield pubs we visited that day.
Wetherspoons pubs are always worth a punt when you're in a town you've never been to before, and visitors to Wakefield will find this one reassuringly familiar. This place is the epitome of a 6/10 pub.

Popped in again last week and as it was a morning visit I got to have a better look round. This is a long narrow JDW, with the bar on the right. Fairly bland interior but the curved ironwork and glass snugs towards the front right are very nice. Clientèle were mainly old blokes passing time. Good range of five guest ales. My Acorn Kashmir was decent. Still worth a look.

August 2009
Classic JDW with four guest ales on during my evening visit plus the usual other suspects. My Acorn Brewery Mild was good but rather cold. Food arrived promptly and with a smile - the staff in here seem a cut above the average 'Spooners, friendly and helpful. A good atmosphere and decent lighting made up for the deficiencies of the bland interior. I'd say it's well-worth popping in to see what's available based on this visit.

As RogerB states below, this is very much a tick the boxes ‘spoons. Located at the bottom end of the city’s shopping precinct, it’s housed in a long, narrow, box-like room that hints at a former life as some sort of retail outlet. Certainly there’s nothing of any real architectural merit, or any of the quirkiness associated with some JDW venues. The most striking feature is probably the folding brasserie style doors!

Internally, it’s the usual story of a central row of high tables, with only the booths to the right and the snug to the left offering any real variety. The dining / family area is to the rear. Décor is predominantly cream and dark red, with a vaguely art deco feel provided by the false ceiling.

Beer quality is often better than you’d expect, but frustratingly is nearly always served too cold. Sometimes the number of pumps dispensing is a lot less than it should be. Three or four ‘available soon’ signs, when the manager is in attendance and the place is well staffed, is more than a little irritating. However, the staff tend to be the real strength of the place, most punching above weight, regarding the chain’s reputation.

This is a JDW that is almost continuously busy and a lively atmosphere is virtually guaranteed. As Thursday is traditionally payday for many in Wakefield, the second half of the week usually sees the place rammed from early evening onwards.
