Old Boots left this review about The Up Steps Inn (JD Wetherspoon)

A small spoons in a fairly hideous new build, the inside is typically dark wood, metal balustrades, deco light fittings and upstairs toilets. Long and thin with the usual type of furnishings and indeed clientele, there are machines clustered at the bottom of the stairs, a screen or two and booths down one side. Two banks of six pulls but all doubled up so take out the unholy three and the choice was Phoenix Arizona, a Hook Norton dark beer I think from the recent beer festival and a Beartown Kodiak. All very typical, it was rammed on a Tuesday lunchtime but even so the staff left something to be desired. Plastic glasses only outside on the pavement seating area.

A decent old style Spoons with some decent looking timber panelled booths along the right hand side back wall. There was also further seating in the upstairs lounge area, which incorporated a part mezzanine area, so you could look at the punters downstairs at the bar area. The beers of interest were Phoenix Wobbly Bob, Moorhouse's Blonde Witch and Wolf Brewery Granny Wouldn't Like It.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Up Steps Inn (JD Wetherspoon)

Older-style 'spoons with an elongated, partly split-level layout, although quite well lit so lighter than some. Reasonable selection from the two banks of six handpumps, including a couple from Coach House, JW Lees Vanilla Cream and a pre festival appearance of Sudwerk Reeds Ale from Adnams (£2.31) plus the usual trio of Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot.

A surprisingly bijou Spoons. Victoriana fittings though not too heavy on the dark wood and it felt rather upmarket in here for a Wethers. Three guest cask IIRC, my choice of Peerless Oatmeal was a good one as it was in fine form (NBSS 4). Genuinely impressive JDW. 7.5

The Up Steps Inn is a long and thin Wetherspoons with a bar counter to the left of the entrance. In amongst the standard and premium keg are two banks of six handpumps. Ruddles, Sharp’s Doom Bar, GK Abbot Ale, Moorhouses Straw Dog and Blonde Witch, Rooster Brewing’s London Thunder and Red Rock and Titanic Iceberg were the cask options. The JDW food menu is available.

Visited yesterday. Two banks of six hand pulls at the bar. At the time of my visits banks were exact duplicates; I am sure on previous visits there were a few duplicated and a few more that were different on each bank. Serving yesterday - Hobgoblin (£2.29), Vulcan Blue Steel Golden Ale by Pleasantry (£2.29), Jaipur by Thornbridge (£3.05), Blonde Witch by Moorhouses (£2.49), Abbot Ale (£1.95) and Ruddles (£1.85). No sign of any Doom Bar!

Aqualung has summed the place up perfectly - it is an "old school" Spoons in terms of signage, furniture and décor. It was busy on Thursday at around 2pm, a mix of customers in, quite noisy.

Unusually for a Spoons, service was quick, with two people serving.

I used to prefer the vibe in the Squire Knott but the Up Steps Inn always had the better real ale selection. The Squire Knott was sold off towards the back end of last year and is no longer a Spoons, however.

Pleasant pint in good nick, can't complain.

This is a smaller old school Spoons that consists of a narrow room which tapers at the end and a small bar counter at the front to the left. I completely failed to spot the upstairs area.
There were 12 hand pumps which had the JDW Trio Of Doom with Doom Bore & Ruddles doubled, Moorhouse Blond Witch, three ciders, Thornbridge Jaipur, Acorn Ultra IPA and Ossett Big Red. I went for the Ultra IPA (£2.49) which was in good nick.
This was the better of the two Oldham Spoons and is GBG 2017 listed.

Veru busy on my Friday late afternoon visit. A good selection of guest ales on the bar and the 2 I had were in very good nick. The service was decent as well. Earns an extra point this time.

Improved again since my last visit. Service was quick and efficient and the numpty level in the pub was quite low. I had a pint of Bateman's Mocha which wasn't to my taste, but it was kept well enough. Keep this up guys and I may have to up my rating.

Smaller than average JDW with the main area downstairs and a small upstairs area. The main room has a raised area to the right which is the family area. Downstairs was very busy when I called on a late Friday afternoon. Two banks of handpumps on the bar, the guest beers are on the second bank. I had a pint of George Wright Brewery Cat which was a good pint, served quickly despite the pub being full. I hadn't been in here for over 3 years as the last visit was a disaster, with a long wait for service followed by crap beer. It's been turned around a quite bit since then. It's still not a great JDW, but it's great compared to many of the pubs in Oldham.

Visited one afternoon and after the customary 5 minute wait for service sampled a pint of the Old Bear Brewery's Old Bear Estivator, which i think must be an acquired taste as i only drank about a third of it.
