Will Larter left this review about The Tavern

It seemed so quiet from the outside while I was taking my photo that I wondered for a moment if the pub was closed. It's an interesting brewer's Tudor-style building, but once inside it's been mucked about so much that the only original fittings are probably the toilet doors. It was very busy, with waiting staff hurrying hither and yon with plates and card processing machines, so that between them all it took five minutes to pour my half of landlord. The other beer was an unknown one to me called Yellow Submarine, with an illustration on the pump clip from the Beatles animation of the same name unattributed and no brewery named either, so I gave that a swerve. The Landlord was in pretty good condition, and not as expensive as it tends to be, at just £1.70 for a half (though to be fair it did turn out to be my most expensive drink of the day). This is clearly not my sort of pub, with family groups dining in booths or at tables arranged with no respect to the original layout of the pub. This became a bit of a theme for my day in Widnes, as the streets were by and large deserted, but the pubs seemed to be full of people eating.
