Not open at its advertised time on a Monday, but when we passed 45 minutes later it had just opened and we were the first in. Small room to the left as you enter, another small room with the bar just to the right and yet another small room to the right of this. A friendly welcome, despite the barmaid still tidying up from the previous session. Three handpumps on the bar, two on, including Bradfield Farmers Blond which was in good nick, although it's not a personal favourite. Several walkers came in soon after us and ordered food, so they were doing alright. I doubt that we'll ever visit Matlock Bath again as the whole place is run down and a real disappointment, so this will be a one off visit to this pub.

A surprisingly small pub with two rooms either side of a small corridor leading to a narrow and steep staircase. A quick glance to the left showed a further room that-away, but the bar was to the right, also small - not much more than a hatch, really - with three hand pumps. Old Speckled Hen was on one, nothing on the third, so I went for the second, which was Bradfield Famers Ale. This was unobjectionable, but only NBSS 2.5. I was charged £2.50 for a half, and boy am I glad I didn't ask for a pint. I sat outside even though it looked like rain. I took my glass back, the licensee thanked me, I opened my mouth to ask where the toilet was situated and he told me "top of the stairs" before I'd even spoken. There's a board on the front wall of the pub advertising this pub to let. It seems to me this guy can't wait for someone to take over - he's clearly had enough.

This pub was reported closed from the middle of December last year, so obviously Marston's have got new tenants. The pub is housed in an attractive looking mid 17th Century building, with large Georgian windows and a handsome looking front entrance, obviously added at a later period. The interior consists of three separate rooms, one of the rooms featuring a nice fireplace and the bar was situated on the right up some steps. The majority of the customers use the front patio in good weather. Two ales on handpump Wychwood Hobgoblin and Marston's Pedigree.

We walked past this place on saturday 4/9/10 and then decided to go back and see what this place had to offer,i was expecting no real ale and a dire place to have a drink in,I was very wrong.

There are a few tables at the front with brollys but these were too busy to sit at.
Once we walked into this pub you have to go up a couple of steps there is a room to the left but there is no bar in this room, we went in the room on the right which was quite small with the bar facing us there were three handpumps on the bar i think this is probably a marstons house we tried the Pedigree and this was a very nice drink there was also Marstons EPA and Jennings Cocker Hoop on the bar.
There is another small room up a couple more steps to the right of the bar which had familys with children in it.
The seating is small chunky wooden tables and chairs and we felt very comfortable and really enjoyed having a drink here,we will visit this pub again and hopefully have more than one drink here.

Pub visited again on 1 October 2011

Well we got round to visit this pub again and we wer'nt dissapointed, the pub is still the same as last time but there was a different choice of beers on the bar.
There were three real ales on we had a drink of Hobgoblin and this was quite a nice drink the other beers were Jennings Cockerhoop and Jennings Crag Rat.
There was still a nice atmosphere and this is one of my wifes favourite pubs in this area.
