Malden man left this review about Woolpack Inn

A one roomed rectangular pub albeit with a small end area semi-separated by an opening and archway. Some darl stained wainscoting below the predominantly red walls, seating at small tables with banquettes and stools. Shelves contained books including back editions of The Good Beer Guide, there were also piles of Private Eye and Viz magazines. Nearby were boxes of games such as draughts, Scrabble plus a set of dominoes and a crib board. A higher shelf contained bottles and beer glasses and the upper walls had a large collection of beer mats running all the way round. I had a pint of the Great Newsome Hop in the Spring which was in top condition.
The old swimming baths "rules" poster was an amusing and original touch, for some reason one wall had a series of film flyers but all for the same film "The Wicker Man". There was also a signed Al Green album cover.
The bar billiards table sits at the far end, the two pub greyhounds had made their den underneath this, they seemed rather timid but they were suddenly invaded by a large group of us.
I liked this pub a lot, the landlord was helpful and very accommodating, cheers for all that.

Blackthorn _ left this review about Woolpack Inn

Located just outside the city walls, this is a single room pub with a bar counter running down the right hand side. The barman was friendly and helpful and obligingly took a few photos of the large PuG crowd that were visiting.

Decor wise, the paintwork is mostly maroon with some contrasting lemon elsewhere, whilst the flooring was predominantly carpet with some slate tiling around the bar. Velvet covered banquet seating was around much of the perimeter. A small TV up on t he wall was showing a sports channel, but the volume was off and this did not seem too intrusive. A pile of board games was stacked up on a shelf and there was also bar billiards. An old poster like you used to get in swimming pools (no bombing, no petting, etc.) was on the wall along with a large selection of beer mats and there was some stained glass up above the bar counter.

Beers on tap were Roosters Yankee, Acorn Blonde, Revolution House of Fun, Hops in the Spring and Timothy Taylor Landlord. Ciders were a duo from Thatcher’s with their Gold and Cheddar Valley which was an unexpected find in this part of the world.

Nice single room pub with a good range of beer, I had Revolution House of Fun, a Mocha Chocolate Milk Stout, it was a decent drop. Very traditionally but simply laid out inside just the sort of place I like and would return.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Woolpack Inn

This one room traditional pub is well worth a visit. The pub is well run and all the ales we tried were superb. On handpump was the full Timothy Taylor range, plus the guest Copper Dragon Sunchaser. The friendly manager also gave us a sample of the Yorkshire Blackout, which was like drinking a rich chocolate cake, quite amazing, but too sweet for me.

Old Boots left this review about Woolpack Inn

a decent one room pub with the lower walls in tongue and groove while the upper part is in half timber but with red paint where you normally see white. The counter is a plain affair of tongue and groove with some brown tiles above, the whole pub is a little bit brown with only the pub's name in stained glass above the counter and the shiny fonts to enliven it. However the beer choice is sparkling, five pumps deliver the full Timothy Taylor range, there are three more pulls for guests and one for cider. Two T-bars have more interesting beers, Leodis, Bellevue kriek, Yorkshire Blackout, Leffe and Lowenbrau. A separate font has a German Hefe-Wiesebier. Furnishing is strictly traditional with tables at bench seating and short stools, there are also a few taller bar stools. The tables are mainly round and the larger ones have tiled tops, again in dull colours. There is a big screen, pipped music and a hidden dart board although I didn't notice an oche. Beer quality was all you would expect from the owners who also have the Swan, Slip and Volunteer. It was fairly quiet on Saturday lunchtime so they may align the opening hours with the Swan or maybe the word just hasn't got round yet that there's a new special pub in town.

This pub has been taken over by the folk who run the Swan, Slip and Volunter pubs, and is just outside the walls on the university side of town. It is a tap for Timothy Taylor beers, and had the range of 5 beers on including Ray's favourite Ram Tam so we had that plus the renamed Bitter, Boltmaker. Both in excellent condition. We had just gone to find where it was so were surprised to find it open lunchtime midweek as their other pubs don't open till teatime. It is a trial, but may go to teatime opening.
