Housed in a modern building, this is a large open plan, split on two levels and undistinguished 'spoons with not much character. The outside space was proving popular with some village idiots. Only 3 real ales with regulars Doom Bar and GK Abbott Ale and a guest Green Jack Jackalope Golden Best. That may seem like a limited range, but with some many other pubs nearby serving even less (or no) real ale be careful what you wish for before turning around and walking out.Not sure why this is CAMRA branch POTY.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Sweyn Forkbeard (JD Wetherspoon)

This 'spoons is housed in a building of an uncertain age close by, but not overlooking the River Trent. The slightly split-level, L-shaped bar is quite dark away from the notably large front and side windows, but the side patio beer garden can catch the sun during most of the day. Disappointingly, just Ruddles and Doom Bar (£1.99) available from the two banks of handpumps.

Old Boots left this review about The Sweyn Forkbeard (JD Wetherspoon)

Situated in a fork in the road on the edge of the town centre it looks like a shop conversion with big clear windows and doors on both street faces. The counter is down one side with the usual collection, two banks of five pulls with all beers doubled up, t-bars etc in between. Beer average in spite of multiple GBG entries. Service above average however, punters as expected for a market town 'spoons. Local interest photo decor.

This is named after a Danish king (the father of King Canute) who invaded England but just when it looked like things were going well died in Gainsborough. If you ask me, anyone who gives one of their sons a name like Cnut is a big time loser and deserves to have a Spoons as their only memorial.
Unlike Mr Verchi below, I thought that this was far from the worst Spoons in the country.
As noted it's a roughly square room with mostly low tables and chairs. There are patios to the side and front that on a warm sunny Spring day were well used. It was doing a good trade on my Saturday afternoon visit but the staff were coping well.
The ten hand pumps had one unused, GK Ruddles, Tom Woods Lincoln Gold doubled, Conwy San Francisco IPA, Everard's Midland Red, Hook Norton Mild The Gap, An International beer by Caledonian, Brecon Six Beacons and Ringwood Old Thumper. I went for the Conwy Beer and the Mild The Gap (£1.99 festival price) both of which were excellent. The Mild was a particularly good example of a stronger dark mild.
I assume this place has upped its game since the previous reviews as I found it to be a good Spoons.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Sweyn Forkbeard (JD Wetherspoon)

The Sweyn Forkbeard is Ganinsboroughs Spoons.
Once inside there is a large square shaped room with the bar on the right side, the seating is the usuall Spoons type.
There were two banks of pumps on the bar,but i did'nt get to see what beers were on as my brother got the drinks in,i had a drink of Springhead Maid Marrion which went down very well after the John Smiths smooth crap i had across the road at the White Horse.
The pub was packed just after 11 on our Saturday morning visit.
I thought this was a pretty poor Spoons compared to most others i have been in.
