Large pub with a carvery restaurant attached at the back. It was designed to look like an Alpine Gasthof in the 70’s by the well known mountain brewery Sam Smiths from the alpine region of Tadcaster. I have no idea whose loopy idea that was! The main part of the pub is one large room with banquette seating and dining tables. There is also a further room upstairs but this is rarely used these days as the pub simply isn’t busy enough. It used to be very busy until Sam’s upped the price of the lease by a stupid amount and the successful landlord, Alan, left (what a good move that was). It’s had several tenants/managers since then and the first ones in took out the handpumps, another good move. So we are left with a quiet, keg only pub, with inconsistent opening hours and a carvery that doesn’t get full either. It’s still a decent enough place but we only visit occasionally. Why would we want to go more often?
