Why have two sections of a bar and only serve from one? I had spotted Wobbly Bob to the left hand side and had seen somebody being served there so waited and waited and waited to be served. The barstaff came round on several occasions, knew I was waiting but still I waited. Eventually I collared one of them who just said "everybody is coming to the other side and refused to serve me. I walked out. Tim, take note of this - I was not impressed.

A very rambling Wetherspoon's with many rooms; unlike an earlier review I did not think this was a very sympathetic conversion of an historic building and some parts are better than others. Usual mixture of low and high tables and typical furnishings. Reasonable range of beer and food ok. Adequate, but could be better.

A splendid conversion of four 18th century townhouses and with loads of character retained with a multi-roomed layout all interconnected, old feature fireplaces and some nice ceiling cornice details, sadly a bit distracted by possibly essential modern ventilation ducting. Situated in a pleasant part of town, behind the impressive town hall and library. A large selection of modern art on display, Manchester Art Gallery is just up the street. This location seems to help avoid the daytime brigade and therefore it was extremely civilised on a Wednesday lunchtime. Four proper guests by my reckoning, I went for the collaboration beer, "Two Birds" brewed for spoons by Everards. A lovely building and good service plus the advantage of a hop, skip and a jump to the City Arms and Vine next door to the back entrance.

Multi-roomed Wethers with approximately 764 different rooms. Possibly. The bar is located in one of em. Usual eclectic selection of beers.

Reasonable JDW, unusual for its multi-room layout, but typical for its standard of service, hampered as others have pointed out by the inaccessibility of the bar. There are a few seats outside making it a good spot for people watching on a nice day, but if you just want a pub there are two far superior options close at hand.

A decent Spoons and well worth a visit. The Lytham Summer Ale was spot on. I couldn't imagine navigating around this pub when it's busy.

Actually managed to get a beer on Saturday night. The Buxton Bank Top was in very good form. Tried to have a second, but the usual problem arose when I couldn't get near the bar.

Large rambling Wetherspoons with multiple rooms. It's a great place to go for a beer if you can actually get any. The bar design means that you can't get many people at the bar and it's got a post halfway along it. When you add that to the usual barstaff problems at Wetherspoons it means that we sometimes have to leave and go for a beer elsewhere. When you can get a beer though it's well kept and a pleasant place to sit and drink.

Monday 14/11/11. Evening 8pm Party of 5. Found this establishment to be one of the best in the chain. Often used 'spoons establishments around the country and very much like their menu and knew what to expect. The food did not disappoint at all. Came within 15 minutes of order and was piping hot and cooked to perfection. The ambiance of the place is quite quirky and it depends which off-shoot from the main corridor where you pick your table as to the exact atmosphere. We had a whole room to ourselves for the main part (well it was a Monday night) and so conversation was able to be had at a decent noise level rather than having to shout (as in some places). The bar staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and the service was very adequate. All-in-all a very good evening and premises we will definitely visit again, when back in Manchester. Finally, I am advised that the females toilets were huge and very clean.

This is a Wetherspoons pub, so the food available is exactly what you would expect, and of course there is a decent ale choice at reasonable prices. The guest ales were £2.25 a pint, which is the same as what I pay in Raynes Park, but a lot less than Central London. The food was at a decent standard as well.
Apparently this pub was converted from two or more houses, and thus it has numerous rooms leading off a central hallway. The tables that I saw were all clean and tidy, and I would say that this one is above average by ‘spoons’ standards.

I thought this is one of the better ‘spoons conversions and was fit for purpose when we needed to find somewhere comfortable for Sunday lunch and a decent pint.
It wasn’t overly busy, so had no problem getting served. But I do take the point from previous reviewers that the bar area and design could cause problems at busy times. In fact I did not realise at first that the bar was in two parts in separate rooms and was under the impression that there were only five beers on offer. Fortunately Thornbridge Chiron and Jailpur IPA were on in the right hand bar and both these were well kept pints to complement the usual paint by numbers ‘spoons Sunday roast.
I also thought the multi room layout worked well and gave several areas of differing character, where you could sit and have a civilised conversation without shouting, which is the norm in most of the Wetherspoon drinking barns. And the upstairs toilets were some of the best I have come across for this chain.
So all in all, one of the better ‘spoons experiences for me...
