An extremely bland pub I felt with the only decor being Holts promotional stuff. A few of their ales on, the Mild was an eyewatering £4.30 - for a 3.2% beer?? Transient clientele including a number of tourists dining on standard pub food. No reason to come here again.

The Old Monkey has a small bar on the rear wall that faces some open plan seating. The usual Holts Keg selection is available and the bar supports six handpumps that were drawing Holts Bitter (x4) and Two Hoots (x2). There is a small television on the wall that was airing muted Winter Olympics whilst some background music played from the jukebox. Upstairs is a lounge bar that is available for hire. It was rammed up there when I visited on Wednesday evening last week, much busier than downstairs. There are more interesting pubs in the area so I don’t plan on returning any time soon.

Small but maybe not as small as the two neighbouring pubs, a single room with an upstairs area of seating, TV & darts apparently. Half a dozen pulls of Holts stuff plus some solo kegs also from Holts by the looks of it. Some bench seats but also a mix of styles as it’s been modernised. Look for the monkey wallpaper.

Visited on Saturday afternoon. Like its two neighbours, this is a pub I had not been in for about five years. I don't recall being that impressed last time, which is probably why I left it so long. At the bar now are six hand pumps, four of which were Holts (Bitter, Mild, Two Hoots, IPA) and two by Bootleg (Chorlton Pale Ale, Urban Fox). For those that don't know, Bootleg is owned by Holts and is brewed at the Horse & Jockey in Chorlton (or certainly used to be). We had the Chorlton Pale Ale which was OK, certainly better than your average Holts beer, and two halves set us back the grand sum of £3.06 so you can't complain about the price.

There is apparently a room upstairs which can be hired as a function room. We weren't stopping for food but looking at the blackboard menu above the bar it seemed to be reasonably priced.

Probably not one I would rush back to, but I wouldn't avoid it like the plague either.

This is a large corner Holts pub, which at first glance looks a little dull - plain brick, modern looking with bland signage. The inside is a single room downstairs with a pool and darts room (unseen) above. The bar room, in which they serve food, is in white and patterned paper, with wood panel and a wood floor. There was soft background music and a silent TV. Service was very friendly and there was a good and mixed clientele. There were 5 handpulls, as well as crafts: Bitter, Humdinger, IPA and a decent MILD and Dark Delight Choccy Stout. Another nice place and one i would return to.

Its not a bad place. Lots of Holts beers on with about 6 that I could see. Some are keg by the way. One of 3 virtually next to each other.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Old Monkey

A solid-looking building that is more modern inside that one might initially expect. Limited furniture and fairly loud music in the main bar. Signage indicating another bar/dining area upstairs. Three Holts beers on handpump - Mild, Maplemoon and Bitter (£2.30).

It's a Holts's pub, so you know what to expect. Cheap tasty mild and bitter in a slightly shabby pub. This one is a bit different though as it's pretty decent, especially since the refurbishment, given the large amount of people that pass through. Also has an upstairs bar that seems to be a bit of a secret (damn, that's blown it). Can be packed downstairs and 2 deep at the bar, but if you go upstairs it's quite peaceful, easy to get served and it has great views over the milling throngs on Portland Street. It's a decent pub.
