Very chintzy and foody pub with a very olde worlde atmosphere. It's one horseshoe shaped room with covered settles and chairs all around. Most tables were set up for dining. You enter into the main area of the pub and follow the room round to the bar which faces away from the door. On the other end of the horseshoe there's a room dominated by one large dining table. A couple of cask ales available on my visit, Draught Bass and Old Speckled Hen. The Bass was a decent pint if eye wateringly expensive for the area at £3.40. There's a table in the main room with a stack of copies of Lancashire Life, which kind of sums the place up really. Aimed squarely at the older, monied end of the market who make up a fair percentage of the people who live in and around Birtle.
