A cracker of a place, everything felt ‘just so’ despite being rammed. Two small rooms knocked-together via an arch if I recall correctly. A variety of ales on, I opted for a Titanic Plum Porter and was rewarded with an excellent pint (NBSS 4). GBG’23 listed and rightly so. Would have stayed longer if we hadn't more pubs to tick off.

Excellent little pub with a choice of 10 ales on. I was in the mood for something dark so I went for Purity Saddle Black which was in good shape. Well worth the short stroll from the main road.

I went down the hill from the Rascal to find this 2019 Good Beer Guide entry and was not disappointed. With a choice of 10 I selected Three Brothers Au and was tempted to have Stourton APA brewed by Enville, both good. Friendly staff made this aa good pub to have as your local.

Only a couple of minutes walk from the Rascal and not one to be missed out. The bar faces you on the left as you enter, where we found a choice of ten handpumps. The bar area was quite poorly lit for some reason, but I still managed to spot the Kinver Brewery, Kinvergarden Hop, which was a good session ale. Prices here were also cheap at £2.50 a pint. The pub had plenty of comfortable seating along the front of the pub and a smaller room towards the back were we enjoyed their beers, for our brief visit.

This is a really tidy looking end-terrace pub and eatery, which has a front and rear patio area. The pub is in Georgian style, a cottage in white, with black paintwork around the sash windows and the door - it has modest decoration above the lower windows and door. The interior has three areas, once former rooms though technically now open plan. The front room is the bar and is nearly fully partitioned from the two back area. It is in white and red. It has a TV (not on) and a nice little fireplace. The room has some bottles and mixed pictures on the walls for interest. Thetwo back areas are for food and are separated by the old corridor leading to the garden. The one side is traditional, being in white and fake beam. It has a mirror, an old indenture and photos of people on the walls. The other side is moder, being in light grey with high backed comfy chairs (funny, nobody was in here). They do good food here - we enjoyed ours. There was no music. The service was fine and there the place was very busy with a mixed clientele. Beer; usual tap stuff with Broadfield Farmer's Pale Ale, Bathams Bitter (very good), Holden's Golden Glow and Kennedy's Crouse, Shropshire Oracle, Gun Dog's Jack Spaniel and a very good Enville Ginger on handpull. A class pub, that combines something for all - bar, food (modern and traditional setting) and an array of beers. Not to be missed - especially with the Swan and Rascal nearby.

This is a fantastic Georgian style building which was converted to a beer house around the time of the Duke of Wellingtons 1830 Beer Act by its owner who was a wealthy glassmaker by trade and it survives as a genuine free house to this day. The interior has two rooms, a public bar across the front of the building and a restaurant area across the back, the two rooms are linked by a very short corridor type opening through the middle of the dividing wall. In the traditional public bar there is a dark wood counter with stained glass above in the back left corner, nice cast iron Victorian fire place with floral tiled surround in the middle of the right wall, fixed burgundy fabric bench seating, small flat screen TV in the front left corner, various brewery memorabilia on the walls and a high shelf around the room which displays an extensive collection of beer bottles. The back dining area is a little more contemporary, although the right hand side of the room does have imitation half timber walls. There are a dozen pine wood tables with modern black leather dining chairs, on the back right wall is a copy of the original deeds to the pub. In the middle of the back wall is another short corridor which leads to the toilets and a small outside patio area with a couple of picnic tables. There are also a couple of picnic tables at the front of the pub either side of the entrance. It should be noted by anyone with mobility concerns that there are half a dozen steps up from the street to the entrance.

Regular ales are currently Bathams Best Bitter, Holden’s Golden Glow, Enville Ginger and Salopian Oracle with three changing guest beers which on this occasion were Dark Star Sussex Stout, Kelham Island Tin Can Avenger and Cotleigh Barn Owl (GBG 2013). A superb selection with some of the most popular local breweries represented. As I guessed (correctly) that there was a good chance of having a Bathams or a Glow somewhere else that day I tried the Oracle and the Avenger which were in excellent condition.

A great traditional free house with good character, brilliant proper beer and one of the best selections I have seen for a while, I had a real dilemma choosing which beers to have as my time here was limited. An interesting fact is that this pub received delivery of the first ever cask of Enville Ale in 1993. The pub has a good mix of traditional and modern decor to suit most tastes, personally I found the front public bar to be very comfortable. Proof that you can successfully have a pub and a restaurant in the same building if done sensitively. I can’t wait to visit again as soon as possible.

This is exactly the type of pub I would like as my local, a traditional pub, a couple of rooms that offer comfort and quality.

Seems to be a lot of TLC here, its not posh or anything, but it doesn't need to be, its just a well run local.

Excellent food, excellent real ale.
