With 10 minutes before the last bus back to Camborne I thought I could squeeze a quick half in here as it was literally a minute away from the bus station. Just my luck that the Regional Manager was in on an unannounced visit which meant I got two free ales that had been poured as part of the inspection; the barmaid knew I was a RAT as soon as she spotted me. For the record they were from Ringwood and Brains, both NBSS 3.5. Mind over matter with the bladder on the latter half of the journey back to the digs though. Rammed and a very locally atmosphere – boisterous without being overbearing.

April 2009
As far as 'Spoons go, this is one of their nicer ones (and is new – a 2006 opener). A classic cavernous interior which nonetheless feels a bit more homely than the usual which is also set in the nice surroundings of Lemon Quay. The usual Spoons ales on at the bar, plus three decent guests which were in good nick. Prices were at the higher end of the 'Spoons spectrum, Truro must be posher than I thought. There's plenty of history dotted around the walls and the place is bright and nicely lit, with a nice mix of exposed brickwork and woodwork. My main gripe was that old dishes and food condiments weren't cleared away, taking the shine off the interior décor - tut tut. Not bad at all, worth a stop for a decent beer outside of Friday/Saturday nights I'd wager. Rated 6

Situated on Truro's main square.
We ran i here as it started to piss it down.
There is a long oblong shaped room running to the rear where there is a small raised area, the bar is on the front left side.
Normal Spoons seating.
It was packed on our Monday dinner visit.
We had a drink of Skinner Cornish Knocker, which was a decent drink,i could not be bothered to note any other real ales as the pub was so busy.
This is one of the worst Wetherspoons i have been in.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Try Dowr (Lloyds No 1)

Elongated, anonymous, modern 'spoons (supposedly a Lloyds No 1)on the Lemon Quay piazza. Not a lot of natural light inside, but the decor and illumination both help. Also has a few tables out front on the pavement. Total of eight real ales from the two banks of five handpumps - none particularly local as far as I could see - and I ended up with a Lemongrass Thai PA from Daleside which went well enough with my 'Fish Friday' lunch.

According to the JDW Directory this is a Lloyds but the only evidence I could see of that was the Landscape Menus although What Pub claims that there is music in the evenings.
It's a long narrow room with a more modern look than some. There were several TV screens dotted about showing Football which the vast majority were completely ignoring.
The bar here has two sets of five hand pumps which had a poor selection with the JDW Trio Of Doom and Cornish Crown One Hop Grain doubled up, one available soon and Hook Norton Nerdherder IPA. I went for the One Hop Grain (£2.45) which was in good condition.
This was another potentially good JDW let down by an indifferent beer choice.

Not a bad Wetherspoons but always seems extremely busy. To be expected really as it is located near Truro bus station and shopping area. Selection when we went was usual suspects and guests were mainly Skinners from nearby brewery. Had Hunny Bunny and Betty Stogs which were ok. Needs to excercise some control on where kids can go in this place as it often has a "creche" feel to it. Don't like stepping over crawling kids when carrying beer.

The above was in May 2010, and we do pop in here each year while in Cornwall, but this year I have been disappointed with the way they are pricing their beers. Every beer had a price ticket in front of the beer.

One set of handpulls had Fullers London Pride £2.59, Schiehallion £2.59, Abbot £2.29, Harbour IPA £2.60 and Ruddles £1.99.
The other set had Adnams Sixpoint £2.29, Schiehallion £2.45, Bishops Finger £2.59, Ruddles £1.99 and Celt Experience £2.60.
They say pricing is in bands per ABV. Not being able to find 2 halves of different beers we wanted for the same price, we chose 2 halves of the Adnams and gave a voucher. It was not £2.29 they had the wrong price in front of the beer. Should be £2.45. The Schiehallion was now £2.29 even though the one on the other set of handpulls was £2.59.This was the second time this year we had asked for a beer and got charged a different price to the one in front of the beer.

Not sure if this is legal.

This is an end terraced Wetherspoons chain pub/eatery, with a front patio area. The facade is in a plain Georgian style brick upper, broken only by the windows and white rendered lower, with large windows.

The interior is one long room with the pine bar on the right as you walk up. The decor is a mix of colours featuring Coffee, yellow, cream, red and undressed stone, with a white ceiling and a carpet and wood mixed floor. The usual tables, with more up-market comfy seats are all over the place for the diners but there were a few sofas at the back in case punters missed their own front-room. If they wanted a book, there is a library at the back as well. The walls have the old photos juxtaposed with the bistro art. We ate here and the food was fine as Spoons goes. The usual silent TVs showing strangely subtitled news were there and there was no music. The service was very good and the usual clientele ranging from families to swaying adults populated the place.

Beer; the usual tap stuff, with the usual Abbotts and Ruddles on handpull. These were accompanied by Bombardier, Springhead Brewery's Roaring Meg and an excellent Tintagel Harbour Special

A better than the average Spoons - my beer being on top form (i stuck to the same one to make sure)

Roger Button left this review about Try Dowr (JD Wetherspoon)

This large Wetherspoons (actually it's a Lloyds No 1 but what the heck) is named after the old Cornish words meaning Three Rivers and are situated in old newspaper buildings. The huge interior has a low false ceiling which, despite the massive amount of open plan floor space, makes it all feel a bit closed in. It could very easily be a rather drab place but good use of colour schemes mixed in with exposed brickwork, bookcases and underplayed modern art does actually make the place quite pleasing on the eye. 3 silent plasma screens show the usual run of subtitled Sky News programmes. Service (both food and the bar) was pretty good given that the place was extremely busy although the choice of ales was very disappointing with just the standard ‘Spoons ales supplemented with the ubiquitous Doom Bar across the 10 pumps. Prices were towards the top end of the chain's pricing policy. Probably slightly more appealing than the average modern style ‘Spoons but let down big time for me by the beer selection although it may just have been a bad day in the office and I'd like to think the selection is generally more imaginative.

A Wetherspoons pub. All the usual stuff, real ale, coffee, food all day, cheap prices, disable access, etc. Gets very busy at lunchtime, so be prepared for a wait to get served. I went back after lunch and got served straight away.
