A high street pub which has been under new ownership for the last 11 days, during which time it’s been renovated and redecorated. It was unnervingly quiet when we visited at what should have been a busy time, which the landlord put down to being new in. On arrival we were informed that we’d just missed the kitchen, but the landlord then offered to knock up a quick curry for us, which I have to say went down very well. To quote the eponymous diarist: “Strange to see how a good dinner and feasting reconciles everybody”. Ales on were Landlord, Ghost Ship and Doombar, in reasonable condition. The landlord and his lady friend were sociable and went out of their way to talk to us, and I hope they make a success of this pub. I’d be happy to come back and eat here next time I’m in the town.

A smart internal refurb has produced a comfortable feel, with lots of pastel colours, several different section in an open plan setup.Rear doors lead to a beer garden, while a raised section feels mainly for diners.Food served until 2.30pm,then again after 5.30pm although the pub stays open all day.
I was surprised to see 7 handpumps, with only a Doom Bar tap reversed,no bad thing. That left me a choice of Holts Two Hoots,Woodforde Reedlighter,Timothy Taylor Golden Best,Castle Rock Harvest Pale,Marston's 61 Deep and Adnams Ghost Ship (a little warm, out of condition ,£1.85 half)
The food offering was a lot cheaper than the surroundings would suggest ,most mains under £10 apart from steaks and some daily specials. Not a bad place but maybe throughput cannot justify 7 real ales .At least an effort has been made to attract real ale drinkers.

Decent large pub with some outside seating. Five real ales but nothing that strong served by a chatty barman. Punk IPA on keg.

6 real ales and food served. The seating is a mixture of sofas and more formal areas with a patio at the back of the pub. Live music advertised.

This was a real find. It is a yong persons pub and froth blowers would best avoid it in the evening. However, in the day it is quite sedate and we can get on with the business to hand. There are 4 gravity feed barrels stacked behind the bar on self adjusting stills. These all change but when I was there we drank some arcers beers...yummy!
