A very large JDW alike with several massive screens, a similar menu to a JDW as well. One large room with a couple of raised areas and very little else in the way of features. It does have a dartboard, a pool tabel and a quiz machine though. It looks like it will be full of youngsters at the weekends. 3 handpumps on the bar with 2 of them on. The Moorhouse's 4-4-2 was a decent pint at a very reasonable £2.40. Nothing much else to say really.

Housed beneath a gloomy multi-storey car park, this Smith & Jones contribution to the town is never going to win any awards for its attractivemness or external appeal.

Unfortunately it doesn’t get much better once you’re through the front doors either. The large, soulless, open plan interior has about as much character as carpet warehouse with little of interest beyond the TV’s that hang down from the lowish ceilings, a pool table section, stage and dance floor area with enough lights overhead to illuminate an ocean liner. A raised area along one side does little to alleviate the hollow feel of the place although the long open bar does at least cater for multiple barfys.

By day all seesm peaceful enough and it acts as a respite for weary shoppers with no discernable tastes in pubs but at weekends it turns into a veritable drinking barn that resembles a thunderous Felaraki style youth fest. I did actually walk straight out on my Saturday evening visit only to return the following lunchtime to satisfy my masochistic tendencies.

There were 3 hand pumps on the bar but Courage Best was the only ale available albeit at £1.89 a pint it was worth a shot. The food was equally budget which was dished up promptly although whilst hardly the finest gourmet treat I’ve had in my life, the old adage “you get what you pay for” applies.

The Bull Green area is hardly the place for a tranquil pint at peak times and to be honest, when the club sounds are pumping out the best bet here is to upset the bouncers on the door to ensure they don’t let you in. If you’re a real completest, sneak in during the day, down one and bugger off.
