All change - "An exciting new destination for discerning Oxford drinkers; we fuse sophisticated cocktail service with the best of British pub tradition." Popped in to see what was going on and was quite excited initially to see ‘craft beer’ advertised but these are on the keg and bottle side – all we ended up with on cask was a pretty naff (hazy and muted) Purity Mad Goose. The interior has been overhauled and it looks fairly good, though aimed squarely at the student set. The place was rammed, though on the first week back for the students perhaps this was inevitable. A ‘DJ’ (I use the term loosely) was playing (or shuffling his ipod) dance tunes at an ear-splitting volume despite there being no discernible dance floor. It’s an improvement on before, anyway.

Basic trying-to-be-hip but-failing pub. Two rooms either side of the bar. The main room is laminate floored, with bright orange banquettes. Unlit rear patio. Two ales, Doom Bar and Old Hooky (warm but a decent beer was trying to get out) though at £1.90 a half that's ridiculous. Was literally the only person in apart from the rotund barmaid. Not hard to see why this one is on a death spiral. Rated 4
