Old Boots left this review about Station Hotel

Old building opposite the North Yorks Moors Railway station as the name suggests, but the inside has been relentlessly modernised by owners Marstons. There's a small, long, thin bar at one end without taps and a larger bar at the back and left with the usual accoutrements and three pulls, Wainwright, Pedigree and Banks's MILD. The Wainwright and Banks's tried by my companion and myself left much to be desired.

Following my previous visit, some time ago, I was looking forward to the excellent Greene king IPA, during the retirement function we were attending. The whole evening was a very enjoyable event which included live music and an opportunity to talk to old friends. The IPA was, as I had expected, absolutely excellent! The only thing that spoiled the evening was the persistent attempts to serve short measures, commented on by many of the guests. On one occasion a "pint" was little more than a half. I repeatedly asked for top ups and if it had not been a special occasion would have left after half an hour never to return. Some publicans seem to do themselves no favours, or perhaps they do not train their staff too well.

When I worked in Pickering, some years ago, this was the most convenient pub for a beer at lunch time. I haven't been in since the late seventies: until yesterday. I managed to lose the women who were shopping, so I popped in here to have a quick pint and a look. I went in through a side door and realized I was in an extension of the original building. I had a pint of Greene King IPA which was excellent and only £2.20. I didnt get chance to see the main Bar, but the extension was very pleasant and sort of modern traditional. The young lady behind the bar was very nice and very helpful.
