I'm not a great fan of Wetherspoons and only came in here because I had done all the open pubs in Shipley that I wanted to do and had half an hour to kill before my train. This unusually shaped building has been adapted well, despite the toilets being on a different floor, and as has been commented below is smaller and more publike than a lot of 'Spoons. I quite liked it here - to be honest, I would be well-disposed towards any pub, 'Spoons or not, that could serve me a half of excellent Elland 1872 Porter for just £1.05. Yummy!

As noted below this is a modern curved building. Inside it's a single room with fairly typical furnishings. It was doing a brisk trade when I arrived on a Wednesday morning with a typical mix of families, shoppers and a few of the daytime brigade. I was after a breakfast here and was delighted to find that the standard one was only £2.79 as opposed to the usual £3.25. The large one was £4.29 rather than £4.95 but I wasn't that hungry!
The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had the two GK beers, one from Settle / Nine Standards, Goose Eye Chinook, Elland 1872, Hobgoblin, Caledonian Thunder Trail, Daleside Monkey Wrench & Premium Gold and Rudgate Olympian. The absence of Doom Bore was a plus point. I had a pint of the 1872 (£2.25) porter which went down a treat with the excellent breakfast. I wasn't keen on the building but thought this was a reasonably good JDW. The JDW directory has no indication that it was once a Lloyds.

An elegant curved glass frontage ,there are two entrances from the street and you step up into a single room with a decent sized bar to the rear. For a 'spoons its not vast which helps give it some pub atmosphere but the interior has been well worn and it looks a little tired. There are two ranks of five handpumps witht on my trip thankfully only two regular ales in Abbott and Ruddles Best.Guests included Wychwood Hobgoblin,Goose Eye Chinook,Sambrooks Red Ale and Elland 1872 Porter among other which I thought was a decent range ,making this a place worth including on any crawl around Shipley.

This Spoons was a former Co op supermarket back in the its day. You can enter the pub up a staircase along the side or via the main entrance near the market. The bar area was in the middle of the pub, situated over on the right. The bar counter was black granite and the bar front was metallic with small timber panelled sections running the bar length.
The service here was excellent and my pint of Goose Eye Chinook at £2 a pint was very refreshing.

The Sir Norman Rae is a Wetherspoons that is situated in the middle of Shipley.
I quite liked the look of this pub from the outside.
Once inside there is a long curved room with the bar on the right side, the room is carpeted, the seating tall ones near the bar and normal tables and chairs elsewhere, there is also bench seating facing the bar.
There was a very good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Acorn Barnsley bitter which went down very well, the other beers noted were Daleside Legover,Ossett Nervous Turkey,Goose Eye Chinook,Elland 1872 Porter,Hobgoblin and Spoons regulars Ruddles best,Doom Bar and GK Abbot.
I quite liked this Spoons.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Sir Norman Rae (JD Wetherspoon)

Fomerly a Lloyds No. 1 bar, re-branded for quite a while as a regular 'spoons. Unusual curved facade. Approximately a 'L'-shaped layout, with elevated views from the side windows towards the back. Surprisingly busy on a Monday lunchtime, but quite civilised and food delivered promptly. 10 handpumps, offering a fair selection including the local Black Moor from Goose Eye Brewery (£2.09).

Fair enough selection of real ales on but because its a Wetherspoons and cheaper than many it tends to attract a certain type of punter who either drink all day and never have a bath or bring their screaming kids in to run around while they drink alcopops. Best avoided.

Bland JDW pub in a prime location, close to the railway station, with about 8 handpulled beers on offer.Had no problem with the service and The Elland Brewery Midnight Rider was quite a decent pint.
