No longer a pub: now a cafe called Bean Emporium, although it is licensed and has a few bottled beers.

Old Boots left this review about The Malt Shovel

Formerly called HOOTERS, a rambling place with a mixture of nice stone floors and bare boards. Large central bar selling the tyke triumvirate of Black Sheep, John Smith's Cask and Tetley's Cask plus Stella, Fosters, Strongbow, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. The beer is adequetely kept but too cold. Decor is modern ie low seats but with some more formal (for the food trade) tables and chairs, staff competent enough. More lively in the evenings hopefully than the Saturday lunchtime I was there.
