This is quite a grand old building for a Spoons. Apparently it was originally a working mans club but I can't believe that was why it was originally built. It opened in 1998 so is probably one of the oldest Spoons in a provincial town that doesn't have a rail station.
As you enter there are dining areas at the front and the bar is right at the back, This area has high tables and chairs.
The rooms are large with high ceilings making it much brighter than the usual shop or office conversion.
The bar has two banks of four hand pumps which on my visit had the Everard's Schlafly Pale Ale doubled up but available soon, the two GK beers, Doom Bore, Saffron Royal Blue & Littlebury Lighthouse and Wadworth's Summer of 1842. It transpired that the Littlebury Lighthouse had gone off so the beer selection turned out to be quite poor for a GBG listed pub. I went for the Locale Royal Blue (£2.05) which was in excellent condition but quite an unmemorable beer but the price was good for a South East Spoons.
I took my beer to one of the front dining areas which for some reason reminded me of the dining room in the Fawlty Towers sitcom.
I quite liked this Spoons but it was let down by the poor beer selection.

Typical Wetherspoons. Bit clinical and lacks pub atmosphere inside.
Good breakfast.

For a Wetherspoon's this is not a bad pub.One bar with seperate drinking areas.Fair range of real ales and an outside drinking/smoking area.
