Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Turf Tavern

Very difficult to spot from a distance as the faded signage on this terraced pub does little to distinguish it from the adjoining houses. The bar is as simple as it gets too, with slatted wooden benches along the walls plus plain tables and little in the way of decor. Four of five handpumps in operation, offering HPA and Butty Bach from Wye Valley and Old Prickly (£2.70) and Shropshire Stout from Holden's. Amusingly, there is a solitary keg tap for Carling but it's difficult to see that getting much use here. Multiple local Camra award winner, but sadly no photographs allowed inside, and (apart from the bar) all appears to be rotting away...

Update: December 2011: The one thing I can say about this place is that it is consistent. The beer is always very good, the decor and atmosphere are always the same and it's always in the Good Beer Guide. One of my favourite Bloxich pubs.

December 2010: My third visit to Tinkies this year. It’s a real step back in time (certainly no jukebox or TV) but it’s all about the beer here which is why it’s Bloxwich’s long standing GBG entry. It was a bitterly cold Monday evening and there were half a dozen other people in. The landlady asked me if I’d been there before. I said yes so I was spared the talk on no photography.

She was more chatty this time around and was happy to explain that an Otter ale, a Pardoe’s and an Oakham were always on (on this occasion it was Otter Bitter, Pardoe’s Bumblehole and Oakham JHB) and the other two handpulls change, although only one was on. We tried them all between us (with pork scratchings) and they were well kept. The only tap was a lonely looking Carling.

I’m starting to get used to the surroundings although I thought that on my first visit to the 1920s outside gents, across the courtyard, that somewhere to wash your hands wouldn’t go amiss. I’ll be back though (hand gel in pocket?) because the place is growing on me.

August 2010: Whilst perusing the handpulls, Zena the landlady asked us if I had been before and gave us the 'no photos' warning but then everything was OK.
Handpulls were Old Swan (Ma Pardoe's) Original and Bumblehole, Oakham JHB and Cornish Coastal Path (or something). They seem to have a steady flow of regulars and, despite the initial 'warning', it was friendly and I'd probably be made welcome if I showed my face in there more often. I'll go back but I couldn't see myself spending a whole evening in there.

Also known locally as 'Tinkies'.

This is a museum piece, looks unchanged since, well I don't know when, but some time early last century.

The bar has wodern seats, but still comfortable. Its really in a time warp but if you have never been it is well worth a visit. It was quiet on a Friday afternoon, the landlady gave what she called her schpeel about no photos but she was very friendly, as was everyone else here.

And a good choice of well kept beer, I had the Oakham JHB, this brewery being one of my faves.

Well worth a visit if you like traditional pubs.

A terraced brick build with flanking bays. The interior has three rooms; main bar and two lounges. All is quiet, not even a ticking clock. No machines, nothing but the chat of the clientele.

I will make this point about the Turf. There is a difference between keeping a place 'original' and simple neglect.

The following is becoming more obvious to me; firstly, a step into the yard will show that the windows are rotting and more paint has flaked off than is still visible. The back room, that gives views onto the road, has some seating that is not only ripped, but even looks mouldy.

The handpull beers are becoming more static; It seems Pitchfork, Bright Otter and Pardoe's OLD Swan MILD are always on, with Bumblehole, or JHB taking the other slot.

The beer is still fine and i love the place, but there are a few worrying signs

A pub that is basically someones house! Very quiet unspoilt pub with charming character and outside toilets. 3 or 4 real ales usually on offer. Comprises of a bar and 2 'lounges' with a serving hatch in the corridor. A pleasant patio is also available. Well worth a visit but a word of warning - do not take any photographs inside, it will not go down well!

The Turf Tavern is a small pub inbetween a row of terraced houses,it looked a bit neglected from the outside with a lot of peeling paintwork.
Once inside there were a few rooms i went in the room to the left which seemed to be the main drinking area, this room was like going back in time the seating looked a bit tired but it was comfortable enough.
I noticed three real ales on the bar and i had a drink of Highgate dark mild this was a very nice drink the other beers were Holdens XB and Golden Glow.
I quite liked this pub as you dont see many pubs like this anymore.
