Will Larter left this review about The Hatters Arms

Thanks for the hint, Mr Camra! Though of course the Hatters in the pub's name are the wrong ones from my point of view. My first thought on entering was that this pub is the same as the Swan with Two Necks in Stockport, but in mirror image. But as the manager pointed out, the toilets here are indoors, not in the back yard. Apart from that, this pub's interior is largely original - though the front lounge has a row of felt hats of various designs, and a couple of incongruous luggage racks with modern tiled surround - bizarre! It was very quiet, mid-afternoon on a Friday, and the pub's location on the wrong side of a busy roundabout on the edge of the shopping centre possibly doesn't help, but I was told (in a subsequent pub) that the previous licensee used to close early and missed a lot of late trade, which the present incumbent will be hoping to recoup. There were two out of four hand pumps available, with Dizzy Blonde and Unicorn, and the latter was as good as I can recall - certainly the equal of the aforementioned Swan.

ROB Camra left this review about The Hatters Arms

A stone built pub with a gorgeous wood panelled interior. It's on CAMRA's list of regionally important pub interiors and I'm not surprised. It still has multiple rooms with a taproom and two small lounges off the main bar area. Really friendly locals, got chatting for ages. I had a half of Cumbria Way. It was in such good nick and the company was so good I ended up having another, even though it was towards the end of a long day. Glad I'd had some excellent fish & chips from just around the corner (Mr Chips) to soak it all up beforehand. 4 handpumps with 3 on serving Unicorn, Dizzy and the Cumbria Way. This is a very good pub and if it hadn't been a Robbies house it could have had a chance at the top award. A certain Mr Larter should visit here. :-))
