As a fan of Taylor Swift, it should come as no surprise to learn that I've not been in here before, but nevertheless we thought that it would be something of a jolly to give it a go.
This was never an original pub but it's quite spacious and very black inside. Black furniture...floor...There's a central bar with stalls for dining to the right side - you can tell that this place is going to be serving American food as soon as you open the door as there's an overpowering smell of barbecue sauce which made me feel quite hungry.
The musical ensemble seemed to be setting up and background music (Europe: The Final Countdown) was playing but it wasn't that loud - I've been to gastropubs with a louder soundtrack.
Cheesy American diner décor abounds with a plethora of US car licence plates and fluorescent lights.
The barmaid was friendly enough and served up a few decent pints of Guinness. A keg tap was dispensing St. Austell's Tribute but it had a shot glass over it so was temporarily out of action.
This seems like a fun place if you're in the mood and makes for something different. Who knows? Perhaps I'll return sometime.

The Big Red is a large pub which is painted black outside and housed under a block of flats.
Once inside there is a large oblong shaped room which runs to the rear, the floor is bare boarded, there is a long bar running down the right side, there is bench seating to the front right with tables and small stools, there is a bar football tables and pin ball machine in the middle of the room plus three pool tables to the rear, there is also some american diner type seating to the rear.
There were no real ales on the bar,or keg bitters,so i had a drink of Carlsburg which was decent enough.
Food was being served and the background music was heavy rock type.
The pub was a bit better that i thought it would be from the look of it from the outside.

I found this large pub to be dark and dingy and my pint of Guinness, which was served in a chipped glass, was far from its best.

There is plenty to do in here as there is a pinball machine and two table football tables along with four pool tables at the back of the pub. I also spotted a plasma screen and a rolled up projector screen so I'd imagine that Sky Sports is shown.

The barmaids were very friendly, but the attraction of sitting in the dark and joining the locals in a Jack Daniels session isn't really my cup of tea.
