Good Beer Guide Entry. Visit ruined by a bunch of old guys expressing their racist viewpoints, using derogatory phrases I haven't heard since the 70s.

Doesn't initially set the pulse racing from the outside but upon entering it's clear you're in a proper drinkers pub; wood fittings, small discrete seating areas, decor that veers between rock music memorabilia and breweriana. Apparently an impressive rear beer garden overlooked by St Editha’s Church, but I didn’t spot it. Five ales on; three from Blue Monkey, Salopian Oracle and Church End Gravediggers. My half of BM Marmoset was in good shape (NBSS 3.5). In a town where there are a small handful of excellent pubs, this one is in that category. 8.5

This is a small old pub that has been GBG listed for many years. Inside it's a fairly ordinary room with a mostly wooden floor and a decent sized garden behind. There is a jukebox and sadly someone put some Pink Floyd on just as I was leaving!
The bar has five hand pumps and a pile of boxes of cider on the bar, not ideal in the summer months. One pump was unused leaving Church End Pews Porter & a house Apeeling, Salopian Oracle and Neepsend Lerna. I went for the Lerna and Pews Porter (£3.20 discounted) both being excellent.
I liked this one and would definitely return.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Sir Robert Peel

Old town pub with a partially opened-out interior featuring three seating areas as well as the tables near the bar. Traditional furniture and decor throughout, although the relatively loud music came as a bit of a surprise. Four of five handpumps in operation, offering Salopian Oracle, Froth Blowers John Bull's Best, Church End Stout Coffin and (perfectly for me) Elland's Busy Fool (£3.30).

Real Ale Ray left this review about Sir Robert Peel

A traditional two roomed pub with a choice of five handpumps. The main bar is situated to the left of entrance. There was also a quieter and smaller room from this over on the right. Beer wise, we went for the Ossett Big Red and the Oakham Citra. The pub also had a good atmosphere on our early Friday eve visit.

Thuck Phat left this review about Sir Robert Peel

A traditional building with an open plan interior. There's a pool table at the far end of the building to the right and various tables, stools and settles throughout.
Four handpumps showing Old Mill Blonde Bombshell, Bargates Catnap, Oakham Bishops Farewll and Sharps Doombar. I suspect that the Bishops and Doombar are regulars but there's no indication of this. Both the Bishops and Blonde Bombshell were in very good condition and sailed down.
The real ale venue in Tamworth and I have and will continue to return.

Top town centre boozer.Heavy quaffing of the York Brewery Springtime inside this attractive old pub.Piped music started off rather hip hop but thankfully reverted to quality from the 70's,80's and 90's as the pub began to fill.Very friendly landlord explained he wanted to get 5 handpumps working but was having difficulty in operating more than two at present ,then gave us a very large bowl of free scratchings.Cue more quaffing. The stairs down from the bogs are steep if you are a bit worse for wear ,but thankfully no one went A over T.Probably the best pub in Tamworth and quite a bit of totty call in on their town centre crawl.

A busy place that used to be Hamlets back in the 1980s, when i first visited it. Cant say a lot about the interior as it was rammed and with the nice weather, we went out side into the patio area - which is called the street! Local CAMRA pub of the year 2007.

Beer wise; usual stuff of course and i couldnt really see much of the bar. Where i was, there were four handpulls, all of which were on; Oakham's Bishops Farewell and JHB were both decent.

Again, would love to visit when i could get to the bar
