Graham Coombs left this review about The Shakespeare

A medium-sized Nicholson's house, handy for New Street station. One room, decorated in the usual faux Victorian style, with a small raised area to the front and a large open space in the centre. To the rear is a tabled dining area. A few interesting features include an M&B tessellated floor at the entrance and some nice tiling down the side. A fair selection of ales on pump with Purity Ubu and Bunny Hops, Rudgate Hop for Heroes, a St Austell seasonal and the house ale, also from St Austell. And Doom Bar, of course.

Rob Hunter left this review about The Shakespeare

Called in yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, there were four real ales on the bar consisting of Purity Ubu, Cotleigh Tawny Owl, Hadley Brewing Moonstone and of course the Nicholson's Pale Ale. One of the pumps that was off may have had a Doom Bar clip turned round.

I wasn't feeling particularly inspired by the line up and it seemed service wasn't going to happen any time soon anyway, so decided to leave and try elsewhere.

Quite a small Nicholson's right by New Street. Gets packed on match days. Good choice of beers alongside the usual Pale ale etc. On my recent visit there were 3 beers from Siren Craft - Sound Wave, Yu Lu and Mosaic. the 2 we tried were in good shape - my only gripe is the dreaded plastic glass. A sign of the times I suppose!

Fairly standard Nicholsons that I wandered into by mistake, meaning to go to the Good Beer Guide Shakespeare in Summer Row!

Seen it done a thousand times but decent beer and comfortable environment.

Malden man left this review about Shakespeare

A long and narrow Nicholson's outlet with a boarded floor and a slightly raised area to the front. Dark green painted walls and white cornices to the substantial ceiling beams. There is an attractive chandelier and ceiling rose. The decor includes framed Shakespeare paraphernalia as you'd expect as well as book covers and pen quills. A fireplace on an end wall looks unused as it contained little twinkly lights. There are copies of beer guides and other related stuff behind the bar. A decentish selection on comprising Sharp's Atlantic, Two Tides and Doom Bar, Purity Gold, Great Heck Christopher, Nicholson's Pale Ale and Old Rosie cider. Worth a look in if on a crawl of central Birmingham.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Shakespeare

Busy Nicholson's pub located between the shopping hustle of New Street and the eponymous railway station. Attractive, traditional-style interior comprising the front bar and rear dining areas (although they now effectively form one long room). Substantially refurbished, but there are still some original features such as the M&B mosaic tiling by the front door and some green wall tiles inside. Also has some patio seating out front. NPA, Doom Bar, Purity Pure UBU, Hook Norton Lion, Black Sheep Holy Grail, Hop Back Citra, Inveralmond Fair Maid and Old Rosie cider from the eight handpumps on this visit.

Slightly disapointed by my visit here , it felt a run down and looked like it needed a good clean , only 6 beers on and nothing too exciting with the house Pale Ale , Doombar , Rev James , Moorhouse Blackcat , Rudgate Dick Firkin and an OK Ilkley Crossroads .
Service was OK if not that friendly .

Not as big as I thought it would be. 8 real ales and a decent variety of styles. Not cheap though.

Interior as described below. Usual Nicholson's selection( 8 real ales). Handy for new street station and double it up with the nearby Bacchus.

Quinno _ left this review about Shakespeare

A Nicholson’s-branded outlet (though only three years or so years since it was done) with their usual Victoriana stylings including an impressive dark wood and mirrored bar back, nice interior tiled wall (to left, going up the stairs) as well as a nice bit of doorstep mosaic work. Interior is single room over a couple of levels and the seating by the front window is a prime spot to bag (I did). Usual Nicholson’s issue of having a nice retro interior ambience ruined by naff muzak over the speakers. Eight ales on, a fairly good selection and my Purity Rivet was in good form. Right close to New Street, so a bit of a no-brainer for a swift one.
