Originally The White Horse, this historic roadside inn is well described by BF, below. There is a good-sized car park which is difficult to get out of due to the trees by the entrance. No nonsense, a genuine welcome from the staff, well-behaved dogs are welcomed and all food is cooked from fresh. Small food portions are available and the dishes are excellent. Three ales on draft plus a cider. I had Butcombe which was in perfect condition. Well worth spending time here.

A roadside pub with a rambling interior it is quite quirky and best known for it's food with meals available throughout the day.The entrance off the car park is quite low and this continues throught the interior with plenty of beams to bump into ! To the left of the entrance feels more of a drinking area with it's own fireplace and a small upright piano. The bar occupies a corridor which opens beyond to a small inglenook and then a series of sections which have more of a dining feel.I liked the way the temptation to create an open plan interior has been resisted ,the nooks and crannies create atmosphere.I ate here from a shortish menu but with addtional daily specials, and a proper chef is at work,no sign of reheated food service guff.
At the bar there was a real Addlestones cider together with Butcombe Bitter(OK condition),CW Bombardier Burning Gold and Cottage Dragonslayer (tired and cloudy),so I have to conclude that the food is better than the ale, from an uninspiring choice on my visit.
Having said that,I would have no trouble returning to this friendly pub for some food and the regular quiz night shows it can have a pubby atmosphere ,it's not just food led.Accomodation available.
