Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Angel
The Angel appears to be one of Durham's main venues for rock music fans. The interior is very basic, with a small front bar with vert little seating at street level and a further area with a pool table and slightly more seating up a few stairs.
There are no real ales here. But I quite enjoyed my half of Jellyfish Nebula from Tooth & Claw. I'd read that there was also real cider. But I couldn't actually spot any.

Old Boots left this review about The Angel
Old looking from the outside but funkily decorated inside with mirrors, snaps, cartoon strips, fairy lights and a music poster collage. Split level, quite steeply, up to a front and rear counter. No real ales just a fairly full collection of national kegs plus bottles and cans, I had a tin of Punk IPA. Benefits from a big screen, jukebox, machines, a patio and a pool table. I could wrong but I think it might be a student pub.

Alan Winfield left this review about Angel Inn
The Angel is situated uphill from the main shopping area.
I thought this pub looked quite smart from the outside and could may well be a gastro type pub,as usual i was very wrong in my impressions of this pub.
Once inside there are small areas to the front left and right which have normal tables and chairs, the main bar area is up a few steps with the bar on the right side, the seating here is tall tables and chairs and normal tables and chairs, there is a pool table to the rear left.
here were TVs showing rock type music videos.
There were no real ales on the bar and the only keg bitter option was the horrible John Smiths extra cold crap which was really cold and crap.
I dont mind drinking in rock orientated pubs, just a shame there was not one real ale on the bar

Malden man left this review about Angel Inn
A split level rather gothic feeling pub which is clearly music orientated. Rather dark and dingy, music posters all over the walls, a guitar suspended from the ceiling towards the front, the lower walls are painted a dark shade of purple. Wood flooring with seating at Britannia tables, there was a brick fireplace in the front area but with the fire removed. The back bit has a pool table and pinball machine. Further seating outside to the rear.
Two handpumps offered Marston's EPA or Old Rosie cider; I went for the cider option but I don't know where it came from, certainly not the pump as the barmaid disappeared somewhere then came back with my pint.
Nothing ostensibly wrong with the pub, it just isn't the type of place I feel all that comfortable in, plus if they are to serve one ale they can surely do better than EPA? I suppose it is easy to keep.
