Will Larter left this review about The Screes Inn

I've always had more of a liking for this pub than its opposite number, the Strands. There's something slightly chaotic and random about it - like the ceilings papered with old pages from the Times and Daily Telegraph. The offerings on the bar, however, are much more mundane and predictable, this being a Robinsons pub. There are six hand pumps, with Westons Rosies Pig cider, Robinsons Dizzy Blonde and Double Hop, and Hawkshead Red and Windermere Pale at the time of my latest visit. I remember a few years ago they used to do a mean chilli, but I haven't tried the food here recently. It's usually quieter in here than the Strands, and I find it overall more relaxing.

On a subsequent visit it became apparent that the Screes has now been acquired by the owners of the Strands opposite. It now functions as additional accommodation and bar, with plans to possibly provide food here eventually. Staff from the Strands seemingly take it in turns to run the bar here, which has four hand pumps featuring Strands brewery produce; the dark mild was incredibly drinkable and moreish for a 6% brew. It was noticeable that locals were dropping in here for a post-work drink, while tourists were flocking to the Strands for food.
