For sale at a million with planning permission - https://www.lutontoday.co.uk/news/english-rose-pub-in-high-town-goes-on-sale-for-1million-1-8790337?fbclid=IwAR3S4dWcxlF4OVHeiIlgn95D3J0Hawd4-bcDEe091o6KlRrBZ7BXjr7Yteg

January 2012
Not too far from the station, this is a tidy little ale house with four good ones available on my visit (Otter Bitter, Otley O3 Boss, Leeds New Moon and Coach House Postlethwaites) plus Boxing Dog cider; my Otter was good and the Leeds New Moon superb. Plenty of CAMRA gumpf available for you to peruse as this seemed to be a quiet pub with no TV on, though there was an unused pool table. Perhaps there was a little atmosphere lacking though to be fair it was half five on a weekday afternoon. The CAMRA connection continues with a sign informing you that the pub helps out with the local beer festival by storing casks for the event. The interior is a mid 90’s refurb job and is fairly homely and certainly clean. The ditzy but friendly barmaid was good entertainment and the locals seemed friendly enough. This one is worth getting off the train for. Rated 8

Traditional small locals corner pub round the back of Luton Central train station and a 5 minute walk from the town centre. As described below, now a single room pub with a pool table dominating the left hand side and the right having a collection of wooden tables and chairs with the small L shaped bar in the far corner.
One of the better Real Ale pubs in Luton and there are usually four ales on from regional and micro breweries. My most recent visit last week coincided with their Xmas Beer festival and on was Salopian Firkin Freezin, Hadrian & Border Yule Fuel, TSA Turkey Stuffing and a cider from Westons.
The hand pumps are on the furthest smaller section of the bar which means they are usually obscured by vertical drinking locals. But in my experience they tend to be a friendly bunch and will happily move out your way so that you can get to the bar.
So, in conclusion, a solid back street local which usually has decent ales on and is very handy for a quick one if picking up or dropping off at the nearby station.

friendly real ale local more like a village pub considering its only 5 mins walk to the town centre. Probably the best town pub beer garden in luton exceptionally well kept ales, well worth the effort to visit.

Brakspear Bitter, Moles Best, Sharp's Atlantic IPA, Leeds Special. Curious layout with small L-shaped bar to rear, brick fireplace with wood burning grate to right, pool table to left, carpetted throughout. Good to see the handful of other customers keeping a concerned local eye on the tv (above entrance) as to the Luton score, but they surely cannot escape after a 30(!)pt deduction? Another dozen, or so, punters later gave the pub a friendly local flavour. Something of an oddity, but pretty good.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The English Rose

Friendly community pub, obviously making a real effort to provide the good people of Luton with a decent and varied selection of proper beer. Had three winter ales on when I visited. Well worth the short walk from the station if you are passing through Luton.

A single room with a L shaped bar in the back corner. The boxed in section of ceiling through the middle of the bar implies once two rooms either side of the central entrance door. Now a pool table occupies one side with basic chair and table seating to the other. Traditional feel to the place, various pictures as decor and an exposed brick fireplace with a few brasses. Clean and tidy, tables cleared and wiped immediately, a good sign. Outside there is a garden/terrace with a series of gazebos for the smokers.
Four handpumps serving at the time RCH Tender Loving Care, Tom Woods Harvest, Brakspear Bitter and Houston Tartan Terror.
