The County Bar at the County Hotel is more like a single roomed pub than a hotel bar. My visit was just before 17:00 on Thursday afternoon when there was one other customer who was eating some food with the barman whilst the pair watched the conclusion of Deal or no Deal. The barman did get up and promptly serve me a half of Guinness as I noted the other offerings of Fosters, Carlsberg and John Smiths. One of the two hand pumps was unused leaving Ruddles as the ale option, although there was a list of bottled ales up on a chalk board. The Guinness was fine and I got my first and last taste of Celebrity Road Trip thanks to Channel Four. There is a fireplace that had a radiator leant against it, which basically summed this place up as it is a bit tatty.

I do not plan a return visit and if I was a guest at the hotel I would be adventurous and find a decent pub nearby.

If you were looking for a typical hotel bar experience you’d be disappointed but as a pub it’s OK. One real ale from Greene King but I usually go for the bottled Abbot at a decent price of £2.50. Food is served from around 6pm to 8pm and is dished out school dinner style by a “chef” who you expect to have a roll up hanging from the side of his mouth. Only £3.50 though and the portions are big so if you’re looking for a bit of fast food with a pint before getting a train from Euston it’s quite convenient.

Small bar in this hotel. Sells one real ale on tap but sells bottled ale, Arkells and Greene King. Has a small menu of food available good portions and cheap prices, where else could you get steak & onions with chips & veg for £3.50. The only downside is the constant roadworks outside gets very noisy. Forgot to say, the Guinness is £2.30 a pint that's why I'm a regular.
