Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Crown Inn

After a game of frisbee golf at the nearby Mendip Activity Centre, I was glad to retreat into the village of Churchill for a drink! The Nelsons Arms will probably attract most of the passing trade, whilst the Crown is tucked away up a bank, away from the main A368. It's car park is across the lane and has a massive pothole at its entrance. Many people park on the lane itself, presumably to avoid the hole.

Judging by the number of people sat on the benches outside at the front, I was expecting the pub to be busy. In actual fact, inside there were relatively few customers. There are a number of small rooms with stone floors. Most people seemed to be to the right-hand side of the entrance. We headed left, where access to the bar was from a room at the rear.

Blackboards display the real ales, which are served directly from the casks. Regular beers are St Austell Batch Bitter & Tribute, Butcombe Original & Palmer's IPA. Guests were Otter Bitter, Bath Gem and the "weekly special" Cheddar Bitter Bully. The cider was Mole's Black Rat. Although, locals seem to like the Black Rat mixed with Rattler!

It's an extremely old fashioned, cosy and welcoming pub. Whilst we ate nothing but a packet of crisps, food portions we saw being brought out were on the large side.

A fantastic, unspolit country pub in a lovely rural location. True it's a little tricky to find, but only a two minute drive from the A38 so worth checking out.

Beers on this occasion were - Hewish IPA, Batch Bitter, PG Steam, Butcombe, Bass, Palmers IPA, Gem, Tribute and Pitchfork. Also four ciders on tap, Thatcher's Traditional, Thatcher's Dry, Mendip Magic and a pear.
