Steve C left this review about The Crown House

The Crown House is under new management and when I popped in on Saturday afternoon the new people in charge were having lunch with a builder/handyman. After having a look around this large establishment I came to the conclusion that this handyman has a hell of a lot of work to do as it looks like the previous management ran this place down for a number of years. To be honest it feels like a soulless rundown hotel that is trying to turn itself into a bar, restaurant and function room venue. The function room is up a large staircase that splits either side at the top and leads to a large landing with numerous doors. The toilets are also located up here past the peeling paint and hanging wires, but on a good note this could be a great venue as the building and function room are on the seafront with great views.

The downstairs area is made up of a dining area to the left and a pool room at the rear right past the bar that is stocked with standard draught products and supports an unused hand pump. I didn’t spot any menus, but a Sunday carvery for £6.50 a head runs from midday until 16:00 is advertised by the entrance. The Fosters was as drinkable as Foster can be and I nearly lost a shoe as I turned to leave as the floor tiles that wrap around the bar were extremely sticky.

I liked the new owners and I hope that they make a success of this place, but it is going to be a hard slog. Unfortunately I will not be supporting them in their business venture as I will go to one of the many proper pubs in the area when I next visit St Leonards.
