Enjoyed our visit to this 2019 Good Beer Guide bar with a good selection of ales both cask and craft. Enjoyed our choice of New Bristol Bootleg House Jooce and Tipping Point Lucid Dream.

this pleasant enough bar appears to be owned by Okells and contains their real ale along with others. it’s quite pleasant inside with mostly respectable couples and groups. Sadly for me it lacks any real character despite being well run. Both food and drinks are expensive in here (all specials over £14!)

Wine bar set up in building not too far from the station. Ok, a bit modern and little character but good beer

Fine selection of ales on offer last night. Haven't been in for some time so was pleasantly surprised by the available cask beers and had a couple of 7.4% ABVs which I can't remember the name of!

Nice real ale meets gastro pub type place that is more pub led in the evenings. There is a really good selection off at least ten real ales and these usually include mostly Yorkshire brewery with Timothy taylor usually always having one of their beers on. On my recent visit it was a brass castle take over night so most of the beers were from their portfolio, the northern blonde was on the steep side at £3.45 as most of their beers are but was very nice. Definitely worth a visit as their choice and quality is always good, a nice place for a beer but the decor amy be a little too trendy/upmarket for traditionalists. I would usually fall into this category but this place I quite like.

Brigantes has gone down the route of gastro food and real ale. There are ten hand pumps on the bar, but two of these were unused during my recent Friday night visit. That still left eight cask ales and eight craft keg options. The food is fairly expensive at around £13 for a main, but the majority of other customers present were all eating so this is a popular food destination. I seem to recall that the group I was with went in here with the intent of eating but they were told that the wait for food was over an hour so decided against it. I decided to get a pint and have a kebab on the way back to the hotel.

I would return here to try the food, but I wouldn’t go in again just for a drink because I found this pub to be very much food led and the atmosphere was not very pub like.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Brigantes

Modern, alehouse-style bar / restaurant run by the small Market Towns Taverns chain. Gastro-pub interior, with the side room set aside for dining until 21:00, and still very full in the mid-evening. Ten handpumps, offering an excellent choice of real ales (including York Minster Ale).

There seems to have been some re-appointment and expansion since I was last here and the interior seems bit blander than I recall from last. The usual excellent selection of ales, bottled beers and craft keg. My Tim Taylor Ram Tam was in very good nick and slipped down a treat. You have to go here when doing York for the quality, though now I’ve had my eyes opened to some of the other pubs that lie outside the city walls I’d be much more inclined to do this place early when the pace is more sedate. As noted, bar prices are at the highest end of the YO1 spectrum.

This is indeed more of a brasserie than a classic York pub, which I think is most welcome when done well - which Brigantes certainly does. Based on two levels with an 'upstairs' bar level and a lower eating and drinking level, the lower level has some nice booths to slide into, which gives the place a little bit of pub-factor. The atmosphere and ambience on a busy evening was relaxed, but with a definite vibe of chatter of enjoyment going on. The range and quality of beer (real ale as well as some continental choices) was excellent, as was the service - the staff seem genuinely proud to be working here. Very impressive.

It doesn't look too promising from the outside as one who prefers traditional pubs however once inside, despite the rather modern interior I found it quite nice. Lots of cream or grey walls, the place is fairly large and steps up and down a bit as does the local terrain. Wooden floor, patterned banquettes, a side area looked rather more for food than drinking. A series of booths are divided by obscure glazed screens. Newspapers were available in a rack, beers pretty much as described below, the Symphonic was from Thwaites and I thought the Okell's was Manx Pale Ale.
A fairly upmarket place really, seemingly aiming at younger affluent persons looking for food and an evening out rather than pub crawlers but I still enjoyed a good pint of ale in here. My notes suggest there is a room upstairs, perhaps there is, who knows it was at the end of a very long day?

A contemporary looking pub on the main Micklegate strip, it appears to be more of a bar/cafe type establishment than your traditional pub and doesn’t look to the sort of place where one would expect to find much in the way of an ale selection.

It has at some point expanded in to the former shop next door and thus consists of two rooms to a certain extent although they have been very much opened out in to one. Decor is quite contemporary as noted previously with cream paintwork, a wood strip floor and some colourful foody photographs on the walls. Large windows at the front give good views out on to the street.

The menu offered a selection of dishes that were perhaps a step or two up from your regular “pub grub”, with options such as Pie of the day, fish & chips, pulled pork hotdog or a Thai lentil and king prawn curry. These were mostly priced in the £10 - £12 range, and there were also a few more specials chalked up on the board. We had planned to eat here, but a 45 minute wait convinced us to go elsewhere.

Contrary to expectations, an extensive beer selection was available which consisted of Timothy Taylor Ram Tam, Jaipur, Black Sheep, Okell’s IPA, Thornbridge Kipling, Symphonic, York Minster Ale and Leeds Ascension. In addition to this, several more keg options were chalked up on a board. Ciders didn’t fair quite so well though, with the only option being Pheasant Plucker.
