Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Crown

Very appealing little Kemptown pub, with limited seating in the small-ish but traditionally decorated bar, but with the sort of comfortable atmosphere that makes all the difference. Better still, in addition to the regular Harvey's, I found the Old Ale (£3.70) on one of the four handpumps.

Called in here on the way to the Hand in Hand,It has the advantage of opening at 11.00 instead of 12.00 as in the case of the aforementioned Hand in Hand. The Crown is very much a locals pub, and seemed almost like a throwback to a 50's or 60's boozer, not that I was of drinking age back then,I only spotted three ales on,Darkstar American Pale Ale,Burning Sky Plateau and Harveys Sussex Best Bitter, all local beers but good ones in my book. My choice of the Plateau was excellent.Well worth a stop off here.

Decided to search this small backstreet pub out after seeing that it is now a Free House. This cosy pub with its leaded glass window frontage and carpeted one bar interior now had four ales available and for my visit these were Fullers London Pride, Dark Star APA and Harveys Best Bitter and Old Ale. So, although not the most exciting of choices, the couple I tried were well kept and the growing collection of pump clips behind the bar show that the new landlord has a vey good Ale rotation policy.
I wish this one well in its new guise, and recommend its worth doing as a double with the Hand in Hand when in this part of town.

Steve C left this review about The Crown

The Crown is a single room boozer with a proper old school governor. The bar is on the right hand wall and there is seating to the left and at the rear. There are a couple of plasma screens that were showing muted Sky Sports results when I visited at 22:00 on Saturday evening last week. There was some background music that was quite loud, but it was the weekend. There were only a handful of other customers who kept themselves to themselves and the barman was a very friendly chap. The bar is stocked with some standard draught and the two hand pumps were drawing Harvey’s Best and Dark Star’s Hophead, the latter of which was in excellent condition.

I liked it in here, but be warned that the door can sometimes be locked and the governor turns away people that he doesn’t like the look of. To be honest I was surprised that I was allowed in!
