Part of the Stonegate empire, this corner bar has a dark wood floor, lots of small dining tables initially,a row of high tables along the window side with a high bench at the rear. All very modern and corporate. There is a staircase to a high first floor level but roped off on my Saturday lunchtime visit. Each table has a chain pub food menu, pub grub no doubt microwaved.
The heating was turned off ,probably to help cash flow but on a chilly morning with few punters in,I had to replace my coat to avoid hyperthermia.
The bar runs along a side wall and is devoid of real ale.The keg selection was mundane with the best option seemingly BrewDog Planet Pale (swift half £2.55).
No reason to revisit,it's faceless and boring.

All Bar One is no more as it has morphed into a Slug and Lettuce. ‘The king is dead! Long live the king!’ springs to mind.

The bright open plan interior was full of young office workers during my fleeting visit yesterday (Wednesday) evening. The bar is stocked with expensive premium draught products, the more it costs the better it is don’t you know. Why on earth this was the busiest pub I visited during my crawl of the area perplexes me.

I will not be rushing back here.

I can't stand this type of fancy wine bar, but the frequency with which I seem to bump into them all over the country suggests that there is clearly a large number of people who love this sort of bland drinking experience.
Basically stripped of anything that makes a pub interesting and with the music turned to a level which rules out any form of conversation, the only appeal for me is from the decent beer selection, which covers some well-known and slightly more obscure European lagers. Unfortunately they attact a hyper-inflated price tag, and as such the bar tends to be filled with preening executive types arguing about who has the biggest wad.
Best avoided unless you're the kind of person who likes this sort of night out, in which case, you probably don't need this website to tell you where to drink.
