A perfectly serviceable pub visited once in the summer of 2001. A sad loss, especially when you consider that in one form or another, it had been here for an incredible 774 years!

Regrettably closed, due to be demolished for the CrossRail project.

Standard Nicholson's pub close to Liverpool Street station. As such, you'll find few surprises, but the beer's in very good condition and the place wasn't too crowded at all, despite the location. Even more so, bearing in mind that the nearby Hamilton Hall is closed till mid-December (2013). To be honest, I think that I'd make this my default option if I had a bit of time to spare before getting a train or meeting someone.

This pub has a few standard and premium draught products and I thought I counted ten hand pumps, but this was the last pub on a lengthy crawl of the area so I may have been mistaken. Anyway, all of the pumps were active and were all drawing different ales from different breweries. I spotted a bowl on the bar with a sign on it advertising homemade lemonade, but I decided to have a pint of Guinness which was well served. There were some random chart hits playing as background music and the plasma screen was turned off and there were no signs of any Sky Sports advertisements. The kitchen is open all day and the menu seemed to be mainly traditional pub fayre.

The bar area is on the left hand side of the pub and a screen down the centre of the pub splits the seating away on the right hand side. The advertised candlelit cellar bar and dining room was closed on this visit, but a glance through the door window revealed an arched ceilinged room with exposed brick and four of the ales that are upstairs available form the bar.

There wasn’t really anything wrong with this pub on my visit, but it doesn’t really stand out from other pubs in the area.
