Largely predictable Wetherspoon bank conversion but feels a bit tatty compared to some, not least as the usual splendid ceiling is rather swamped by vast industrial ducting. Guest ales were just Moorhouses Blonde Witch and Kirkstall Pale, which was very cloudy but tasted ok (is that normal, I wonder?)

Totally impossible to get served on Sunday evening. About 20 waiting to be served and only 3 staff behind the bar. We walked out.

Called in over the weekend. No problem getting served and the guest beer range was very good. It is a bit of a shame that not much character has been preserved in here, but it is a pub aimed at vertical drinking at the weekends. Maybe we were lucky, but it was better than expected after the last few reviews.

As noted below this is an obvious bank conversion and needs no further description.
I probably came here at the worst possible time, late afternoon on a Saturday towards the end of October with Christmas looming and a Rugby semi final going on. The place was rammed.
I got a beer in and managed to find an available table so went back to order some food and another pint. They seemed to have a decent selection of festival ales on but my first one Caledonian Rare Red Rye wasn't clear which is pretty poor for a 3.9% ABV brew. The second one the Maxim John Bull Stout seemed to be in good nick. It's hard to reasonably criticise this place so I'll mention my main gripe which is the prices. The festival ales were £2.70 which means the normal guest ale price was probably £2.85. This is a lot higher than any of my regular Spoons haunts in London and the sausage and mash was also dearer.
I'm sure it's not as bad as a score of 5 at a quieter time when I would probably have sent the cloudy beer back but that's what I'm giving it.

The Becketts Bank is a large Spoons that is a short walk from the train station.
Once inside there is a large oblong shaped room with the bar facing, the seating is the usual Spoons type with a mix of tall tables and chairs and some normal ones, there is a small separate area tote rear right and an upstairs room.
There was a decent choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Kirkstall Pale Ale which went down well on my mid Wednesday morning visit, the other beers i noted were Kirkstall Three Swords,Thornbridge Melba,Thornbridge Wye,Batemans XXXB,plus the usuall Spoons regulars.
I was happy enough having drink in here when it was fairly quiet.

This is a large two storey Wetherspoons bank conversion in the city's financial district. As with most of this chain's bank conversions, you find yourself inside a vast, high ceilinged, open plan room with a few notable architectural features. The main room is carpeted and has the servery running along the back wall with high tables and stools arranged opposite. The servery has a series of mirrors on the bar back, one of which depicts the pub (and former bank's) name, whilst the area around the counter is broken up by four huge stone pillars. Additional seating can be found along the front and right hand sides of the room, with the right hand side extending quite some way back, beyond the end of the bar. Stairs lead up to a narrow mezzanine space with plenty of additional standard seating and nice views down over the main room below. You can also get a better look at the ceiling from up here, with its decorative touches and impressive light fittings. There are plenty of TV screens dotted around the pub, showing the usual muted news coverage. The pub was doing a brisk breakfast trade and I decided to join in and have a fry-up, which was up to the usual acceptable standards. The staff were friendly and engaging with the waitresses in particular doing a sterling job of getting food out quickly and tables promptly cleared.
I counted ten handpulls at the bar, two of which were serving regular 'Spoons ales, whilst one displayed the dreaded 'Coming Soon' clip, leaving the remaining seven for guest ales, mostly from regional micros, which seemed like a pretty good ratio to me.
This is a pretty decent Wetherspoons pub, not quite as opulent as some of their higher profile bank conversions and a little less personal and convivial than the Stick or Twist. It's always good to know where the reliable 'Spoons are in any city and based on this visit, I would say this place is worth bearing in mind.

We were lucky to get in here before the place got mobbed with loads of footy fans. The Moorhouses Black Witch was spot on.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Becketts Bank (JD Wetherspoon)

Looks like it should be an interesting conversion, but the former banking hall has been stripped out apart from the tall moulded ceiling. The modern mezzanine does nothing for the character of the place either. I have always found the service poor in here, and have walked out on several attempted visits due to staff being invisible or spending all their time talking to each either. Amazingly, on this occasion, all ten handpumps were in operation; and - for once - there were a few beers of interest (e.g. Liberation EPA, £2.49, from the Channel islands). Footnote: The only pub I've ever visited that had door staff at breakfast-time on a Sunday...

Hasn't changed much in the last two days, except that there are now several 'coming soons'. My beer was ok but another pint was decidedly off. Change volunteered, but signs that not all is well in the cellar.

Old Boots left this review about The Becketts Bank (JD Wetherspoon)

An ex-bank with a crudely inserted mezzanine floor and some dreadful air-con pipework disfiguring an otherwise pleasant neo-classical space. Usual 'spoons light wood furnishings, a long wait even when quiet and with three serving, usual 5 + 5 pulls with some interesting beers but abysmally kept although no doubles or “coming soon” among them. Lots of screens showing sport, unusually the sound was up. Not a must visit venue, in fact one of those soul sapping experiences, so devoid of pleasure that not even the imbibing of poor quality alcohol can hide the pain.

Ended up in here as I was too befuddled to remember where Mr Foley’s was, having 50 minutes to kill between trains. This is a large two-tier Spoons converted from an old bank. JDW have managed to retain the ornate high ceilings, though it‘s nowhere in the league of the famous London bank conversions by Fullers (Old Bank of England and Counting House, since you ask). The upstairs mezzanine was pretty nicely done and the place was in a decent state of repair. Plenty of interesting guest ales on offer, my Rudgate Mount Hood was fine. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I thought it was decent enough and I would be happy to use it again if needs be.
