This pub is very close to the minster and it was very busy early saturday dinner.
I was surprised to see this pub as it is'nt in my newish York guide (2007),there were 8 handpumps that i could see and these were mostly micro brewery beers we had a drink of Roosters YPA and this was a very nice drink i also saw Landlord,Daleside Old Legover,Ossett Excelsior and Woodfordes Wherry which i thought was a great choice of beers.
On the down side i thought the pub was too dark inside and there was something that i did'nt like about this place but i car'nt put my finger on it yet.

Rex Rattus left this review about The Guy Fawkes Hotel

There were numerous ales on when I visited, and I went for the Hambleton Ales Nightmare which was (unsurprisingly) a dark rich ale full of flavour and menace. The pub is obviously named after one of the ill fated members of the gunpowder plot of course, who ended up being hung, drawn and quartered in London, but who was born in nearby Stonegate. This looks for all the world like a town house that has been converted into a pub. As you enter, the bar counter is on the left, in front of which there’s a small drinking area; there’s a separate room at the front on the right; and another separate room in the back on the right. The floors are all bare-boarded, and furnishings are mainly solid wood tables and chairs, although there were some benches in the area in front of the bar counter. The only seats available when we visited were in the back room, so that’s where we sat. This room looks as if it is often used as a restaurant area because the normal tables and chairs in here are the most convenient in the pub for dining. Some people in here had obviously just finished eating (we were in fairly late in the evening) and there was no problem in us sitting in here with just a drink. The room was quite gloomy, but the candles on the table gave it an intimate feel. An interesting feature in this room are a couple of alcoves containing murals of swans and fawns and the like.
This is a perfectly decent pub to stop off for a drink, and I would very happy to pay a return visit if I get to visit York again.

Old Boots left this review about The Guy Fawkes Hotel

Fine old hotel with a dark but interesting interior, renovated in 2008. Six pulls of mainly smaller brewery products of good quality and a range of both boring and interesting keg beers. Lots of rooms of varying sizes in a simply decorated dark finish with settles and tables all looking very 18th Century in style. Some rooms have gas lighting. The pub operation is food led complete with brass numbered tables but the wet side doesn't appear to suffer as a result. Pleasant friendly staff and all real ales are £2.50 a pint, I don't know if that's a short or long term offer.
