This is a large street corner local, painted a repellent black but very pleasant inside, with what appears to be original wood panelling in places and a real fire. There are two hand pumps on the bar, with Dark Star Hophead and Laine Dubloon available. I went for the Dark Star, having previously found the Laine beer not to my taste. It was ok but nothing special. There were a few customers at the time of my mid-afternoon visit and for those who live nearby this would be a pleasant spot for a regular drink, but for a visitor to Brighton this one is not worth the effort of a special visit.

Corner pub serving 1 real ale and food. A pool table and dartboard are located in a raised area at the rear of the pub.

The Duke of Beaufort is made up by a U shaped bar area with a room at the rear that houses a quiz machine, dartboard and pool table. There is a projector screen which was off during my late midweek evening visit, but I would imagine that Sky Sports is shown when some worthwhile sport is being played. There was some background music playing, but this was escapable as it was only audible at the rear of the building. Alongside Amstel and some standard draught products there are three hand pumps that were drawing W J King’s Brighton Best. From what I gathered from the advertisements sandwiches are available during the week and there is a roast between midday and 16:00 on Sundays. These roasts seem very reasonably priced at £6 for adults and £4 for children.

There were only four locals present during my visit so there was no atmosphere, but the service was polite and I received a decent pint. I will pop back in for another visit when next in the area, if only to the Duke at a busier time.

Tony Donington left this review about Duke of Beaufort

Hi,
Hi I'm the new landlord for the Duke of Beaufort. Since taking over I have introduced some exciting new changes as well as keeping some of the original charm in this classic pub!

Firstly we have a newly decorated beer garden with a large flat screen T.V showing all-major sports on SKY and ESPN. See also our very large indoor projector screen ideal for the big games!

We have a chef cooking outstanding Indian food and a curry and pint offer of ONLY £7.50!!

Happy hour remains and we have drinks specials throughout the week. We also have an NHS and NUS discount for hardworking nurses and (lazy/hardworking?) students!!

We have new weekly events including poker and pool competitions and pub quiz with potential jackpots reaching £50+.

All of our team has worked very hard to create a new warm and welcoming atmosphere in our pub accommodating everyone including students, families and hard working locals.

We happily invite you to come see the new and improved Duke of Beaufort and welcome any comments or suggestions you may have about our pub. We look forward to seeing you soon and reading your reviews.

Happy drinking!
The team at the Duke.
