Imposing building with a standard spoons makeover inside. 4 guests on including Brewsters Hop A Doodle, Saltaire Blonde and Hydes Lowry.

A Wetherspoon pub in a classic old 30s cinema, inside the old circle is still preserved but sadly inaccessible. Some art deco features remain, such as light fittings, loads of framed film related features on the walls. Otherwise a spoons, crammed in tables and the usual spoons atmosphere, bizarrely there was a queue line up at the bar, are the people who do this so unaware of normal pub culture? I ignored this local convention and marched to the bar and was served straightaway, there may have been tuts and mutterings. There were a few guest beers on, I had something from Woodfordes.

This is the original name of the cinema that this obviously once was. The later name Embassy can still be seen on the top of the rounded corner outside. Inside it's easy to see what it was built for, the long bar at the front with the kitchen behind being where the stage and screen once were.
I turned up here after 10:00 on a Saturday Morning and it was busy with a mix of people including a few daytime brigade types. They were clearly understaffed as there were dead glasses and plates to be seen everywhere. I had to wait an age to get served my second pint.
The bar has two banks of six pumps but the choice wasn't brilliant as the two GK beers and Wild Weather Howlin' Gale were doubled up. The Doom Bore, Adnam's Broadside and Cider left just Brentwood Hope & Glory, Maxim Maximus and the International Banks's Feral Hop Hog. I went for a couple of the Hop Hog (£2.49) with a large breakfast which went down a treat.
It's actually a Lloyds No. 1 so is probably a nightmare on Friday and Saturday night.

Another sunny day and still a very dark spoons as below, housed in an ex Cinema, the pictures as I called them back in the day, all a bit Art-Deco.
12 handpumps with a few usual's, the likes of GK Abbott,London Pride,Ruddle's County and Adnams Broadside, a few guests and a Cider made up the rest,I have to say my choice of Acorn Transatlantic IPA was excellent and very likely to be the best beer of the week. The pub however as well as being dark was rather morgue like despite a scattering of customers at the rather early time of day ,9.30 AM, totally lacking of any ambiance, maybe its different on a Friday night. Its OK for what it is ,conveniently open at a time when other pubs are not but I wouldn't normally make a bee-line here later in the day. Full marks though for beer quality on my visit, one of my slightly higher scoring spoons pubs on that score.

I think this is the darkest Spoons i've ever been in, considering it was such a sunny day. Maybe that's their idea hence the building and the name. I did manage to find a table with a ceiling light shining on it, so I could see what I was eating and drinking.
