A Shepherd Neame bar and lounge. Real ale and Thai food served. The pub has a pool table.

The Caxton Arms is a two room pub with a small L shaped bar area on the left where there are three hand pumps and being a Shepherd Neame pub the ale choices were Bishops Finger, Kent’s Best and Late Red. The draught selection is also the usual SN range with Holsten Export, Asahi and Oranjeboom etc, but I plumped for the old faithful Guinness which was served well by a friendly member of staff. Pub food is served and a light bite costs around the £3 mark and the mains are available for around £8. The TV up on the wall was turned off and I didn’t spot any advertisements for any sports, but there was a sign pointing the way to the heated garden terrace that I did not visit on this occasion. The right hand side of this pub was a surprise as I thought it felt more like a common room as it was full of students when the left had bar area was almost empty and there is a pool table at the back in front of the book shelf lined rear wall. There is also a plasma screen, but again no signs for sport seen and the bar is more of a metre long serving hatch.
I’m not the biggest SN fan and I think that there are better pubs in the area so I doubt that I will return.
