Real Ale Ray left this review about The Malthouse (JD Wetherspoon)

This Spoons is housed in a 1930s Art Deco building with the main cinema hall ceiling still intact. Even the entrance area still retains the original Cinema design, which was housed for the ticket office as you step up into the foyer.
It's now full of old fellas topping up on lagers and getting blasted from the warm fan heaters over the door entrance.
Beer wise, nothing to really to inspire. They were showcasing Salopian ales so I went for the Salopian Oracle, which was in excellent condition and only £2.10 a pint.

Graham Coombs left this review about The Malthouse (JD Wetherspoon)

A vast barn of a place, clearly converted from a former cinema, which itself built on the back of a maltings apparently. A comfortable feel, but the main hall is a bit vast and echo-ey, so the lower areas round the front are cosier. There is a beer garden at the back. The beer range was good, with at least four interesting ales alongside the usual IPA, Abbot and Ruddles and in good condition.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Malthouse (JD Wetherspoon)

Initially looks like it should be a large 'spoons, but as you enter a small lobby through the main doors the bar off to one side looks surprisingly small. However, the main seating area beyond is in a converted former cinema (which was in turn converted from an earlier eponymous farm building). This leaves plenty of space in the various seating / dining areas even on a reasonably busy Wednesday evening. Not a bad selection of real ales from the two banks of five handpumps either, and the Blindman Mine Beer was excellent value at just £ 2.15.

Aqualung . left this review about The Malthouse (JD Wetherspoon)

This was my second cinema conversion of the day but nowhere near as well executed as the Avion in Aldridge. It's rather dark and gloomy inside and on my Saturday afternoon visit was fairly chaotic with lots of tables needing clearing.
The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had one unused, the two GK beers doubled up, Doom Bore, Titanic Captain Smith, Davenport's Pale, Cotleigh Snowy and Sadler's Boris Citrov. I went for the Captain Smith (£2.15) which came with some food and was as good a pint of it as I've tried anywhere. It's GBG 2016 listed and is an above average Spoons but not a great one.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Malthouse (JD Wetherspoon)

The former cinema and Dale bingo hall and now a part of the Wetherspoons chain, the rather art deco exterior is in white render and purple and there is a patio area.

The interior is a rather large L-shape and you have to go up the stairs and turn to the left to actually get to the serving bar area. It is, of course, being a Spoons, laid out for food, but there is a sofa area, under the high moulded ceiling area, formerly the auditorium i guess. The decor is the usual multi-coloured white, red, green, peach and so on, with a mix of arty pictures and old photos as Spoons usually do. The food was perfectly adequate and the service was fine. The clientele was the usual Spoons mix and there was no music.

Beer; tap stuff with Aboots and Ruddles on handpull. I have been a couple of times and there are usually 4 or so guests on as well - the Butcombe Xmas Steps was so-so, the Arundel Old Scrooge was OK.

The place feels better than the average Spoons to me, though the beer was the usual up and down quality. A good refurbishment though and service was fine.

Formerly the Dale Bingo Hall but a malthouse originally, this Wetherspoon's is entered in CAMRA's Black Country Good Beer Guide for selling Enville Ale, Greene King Abbot Ale, Marston's Burton Bitter and Pedigree as well as some guest beers.
