I thought Manchester was near unique having three pubs next to each other (City Arms, Waterside and Vine Inn) but here they are with another trilgy.

Cannot tell where one beer garden ends and the other begins - with two other historic pubs/bars at the Wellington and Mitre adjacent.

This - I think - is my first visit. Sam Smiths, so went for the Stout.

Worth a mooch, for pub history fans.

You know what to expect in a Sam Smiths pub. The Old Brewery bitter was in good shape. Happy to have called in.

Bit of a letdown on this visit. bouncers on the door - albeit friendly enough, probably necessary to explain Humphrey’s rules to the young naive drinkers. Fairly quiet inside on a Saturday night. Keg OBB was fine but in a plastic glass, the dark mild was rancid. Worth a look for the interior, over two floors, including a proper oyster bar (£3.50 with lemon and tabasco sauce).

I’m a fan of Sam Smith’s Old Brewery Bitter, but never see it anywhere anymore so I was happy to find it in here. Two hand pumps on the bar, along with the other obscure shite that you find in an SS pub. The main bar is along the right wall through the front entrance and at the rear is the Oyster Bar, that wasn’t manned during my early evening midweek visit. To the right are at least two small seating areas. I was served in a plastic vessel and the bouncers were miserable, but the OBB was cheap as chips. Like its neighbour, making up the Crumbles, this pub has lots of outside seating for the tourists.

A Sam Smiths pub right next door to The Wellington. If you can bear Sam Smiths stuff then great but if you want more variety go next door.

This pub is well staffed and service is good. The front bar is quite low and they have the full range of Sam Smith's beers and lagers. There is also seating outside and table service, where your food it brought out to you.

Nice looking Sam Smiths pub that along with the Old Wellington Inn are collectively known as The Shambles. An alternative name is The Great Survivors given that the pubs have both been moved twice, the first time in the 1970's when the Arndale Centre was built and again in the late 1990's to allow for regeneration of the area after the IRA bomb blast. There is a small bar downstairs along with a low ceiling snug. There's more room upstairs where food is served. Usual Sam Smiths beers served by friendly staff.

A great pub popular for ages. Although its the oldest pub in Manchester it has been moved at least once. Good beer, cheap, good staff, great atmosphere. A definite gem.
