Popped in here after visiting the exellent Greek Retaurant across the road , the interior is open plan and roughly L shaped , strange mix of customers with old blokes knocking back the whisky , groups of drunk , loud middle aged couples and scantilly clad young girlies on the shots , 3 handpulls with Rosie Pig Cider , Doombar and Brains Cafe Phoinex at £2 a pint .
Staff were a bit on the odd side , friendly to some people abusive to others .
We just had a quick JD and left before the kareoke started .

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Old Queen's Head

An interesting and attractive looking medieval building built in 1508. The interior of the pub was quite bland and tacky looking. Once up to the bar, the beer choice became dire. Two handpumps with one in operation serving a Hardy and Hanson's bitter. Quite a lot of people were dining on our visit, which ranged from curry to a full roast diiner, the smell of cooked food was overpowering.

There were three handpumps on the bar, with only one in operation, dispensing GK IPA. Very disappointing. Hot food was available from the usual pubco style glossy menu. Standard pub grub stuff is £7 - £8 or so.

This is another Chester pub that looks great from the outside but flatters to deceive, being very ordinary inside. It could be a bogstandard Taylor Walker pub, but without the ale choice or the CAMRA discount. Fruit and games machines abound, and unnecessarily loud pop music was being played.

I can’t see much to recommend this pub, although it is right next to the bus stop to catch a bus back to our hotel by the station. The food was good quality for the price though.

Will Larter left this review about The Old Queen's Head

It was very busy when I called in here at Saturday lunchtime, the atmosphere being rather fuggy with a mixture of food smells and warm humanity. I made my way to the bar and quickly reversed my steps on finding the solitary real ale on the pair of hand pumps there to be Wychwood Hobgoblin.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Old Queen's Head

The exterior of this detached pub is lovely; black beams and white rendered, on stone base, with a central extension creating a covered porch area.

The interior is open plan and although it has the beams, is set out for food to a modern plan. It was packed with those eating and the service seemed fine, its just that as the only real ale was John Smith's Cask, we walked out.

It seems popular for those that eat and are not really bothered about real ales. I wouldnt go back, but they will hardly miss my custom!

A lovely old pub with friendly staff that serves good food during the afternoon with a relaxed atmosphere, also a very good pub in the evening especially at the weekend, a favourite for weekend revellers before they go to the nearby nightclubs.
