Tris C left this review about The Angel

Another pub dating from the late 18th century and probably rebuilt in the 19th, this had been known by various names and seemed at least at one time to be a southern soul food bar/restaurant.
The pub is now a bit strange. The website gives the impression that it’s a rather upmarket place, with smart furniture and tables laid for dining. I’m not sure what’s happened here, but I arrived to find a pub with quite a rough pale wood floor, mismatched tall furniture and certainly no wine glasses or napkins. The walls are half height field panelled, painted white with the infill in pale green. The bar back is interesting but I know not how old, the bar front looking original. Lighting was in the form of trendy optic fibre chandeliers, then recessed ceiling downlighters. There’s no décor, but there’s a Wurlitzer-style jukebox, with Dolly Parton blaring out from it at quite some volume. Customers seemed to be locals, possibly from the nearby Guinness estate. I’m not really sure what’s happened here; has the pub gone bust and then reopened as a going concern?
There’s no real ale or even premium lagers, with the likes of Moretti, Stella, Pravha, Fosters and Guinness at £2.50 a half, poured in one go by a very friendly barmaid.
This place is a bit sad really, but I doubt it was much better before.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Angel (Sammies Bar)

Small, square corner pub with the Missouri Angel restaurant above and a basement bar below (neither visited). Also known as Sammie's Bar, as indicated on the wall above the counter. A few high tables but very limited seating so most customers standing. Light decor, and initially brightly lit but the illumination was turned down as the music volume went up. Now has two real ales on handpump: Doom Bar and Bombardier (£4.00).

This once fine corner house dates from the late Georgian period and was first licensed in 1822. Sadly there has been no change since James's review below. A twee, dull winebar-wannabee with no decent beer, full of braying idiots. Somewhere to which I shall probably not return in its current guise.

Sadly this little Gem closed a few years ago and is now an over-priced eaterie with a bar serving Steam Beer from the USA, very badly.
